Treadmill advice needed

Post by Big Pratt »

It looks like winter is almost upon us and I don't feel like driving throught the snow to get to the gym on my days off.
So.... I'm in the market for a treadmill.

I plan on getting something tough that will last and not a little dinky crap made in china that is sold at crappy tire.
I'll probably go with a "used" one as I've noticed that housewifes often buy them just to let them collect dust.
Used rarely means worn out.

Could those in the know advise me as to what brands and features I should be looking for?

I'm looking to spend up to a thousand on a solid, barely used model (I'll let the housewife take the initial depreciation)

Thanks!

PS I already have a kickass sound system in the basement to play "Eye of the tiger" so no need for audio advice

I'd say go into SEARS or something and pretend like you want to buy one of their machines and get them to give you all the info you need. I bought my treadmill from there and they were very helpful. One thing you gotta look for is the size of the engine. I think you want it to be over 2 at least, otherwise it's basically meant for walking, no running. But you should ask some people in that department, then you can search the papers for a cheaper one.

why not: A.) Bid for all miami/dominican etc.. overnights and pack your runners in the flight bag.. or B.) wait for the recession to bite a bit stronger, and watch the auction listings in the local paper - sooner or later one of those fancy gyms is going to go TU, and you could buy a commercial machine at a discount..

I've got a beaut in a storage locker - cost as much as a Honda, has a motor bigger than a Honda and its been there ever since my knees gave up the ghost and I realized I would need a really long extension cord to use it as a snowmobile.

Take it from me, kids, running f*cks up your knees and the cartilage doesn't grow back! A treadmill will make it way easier to f*ck up your knees - you can do it in the privacy of your own home on your own schedule. Rent/lease/borrow a ski machine instead.
