Re: 717-200 ?
I don't think any of these airlines fly to YYZ.
As of August 2008, a total of 154 Boeing 717-200 airplanes were in airline service with:
AirTran Airways (87)
Midwest Airlines (25)
National Jet (for QantasLink) (14)
Hawaiian Airlines (11)
Aerolíneas de Baleares (8)
Turkmenistan Airlines (7)
Bangkok Airways (2)

Isn't that an MD 80 after Boeing took over....there really was no B717....it's just a jet with a new name.

Re: 717-200 ?
It was the MD-95. It was designed by MD to be a replacement for the DC-9-10s and an entry into the regional market. Other than basic structure it has little in common with the MD-80.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Just enough to be different aircraft in my opinion..along with turbo-fan vs. turbo-jet the flight decks are totally different..Doc wrote:....there really was no B717....it's just a jet with a new name.

It was the MD-95..shorter version of the MD-90, both had the largest engines ever worn by the DC-9 family.

Re: 717-200 ?
American Airlines flies both the MD-80 and the MD-83. While they both look like the B-717 they are larger and a fair bit older. Here is a photo of one from American's website. There also slowly being replaced by the 737.

Re: 717-200 ?
Yes, American used to operate a fleet of 28 of the 717s after they took over TWA. They used to fly them along with the MD82 and MD83 into YYZ. AA retired them in 2002. AA kept the TWA titles I remember.

Re: 717-200 ?
Exactly...but your post implied that they were still with AA and still coming in to YYZ.

Re: 717-200 ?
did boeing really assign "717" as the model # to that douglas design?
seems that way back in the day when i still had most of my hair, that model was used on a varient of the 707. to be even more foggy, i think it was the kc-135 stratotanker. the tankers were stationed at a sac base about 40 miles from the farm and they and the 52's were over our heads everyday.of course that was many years and many beer&stories ago. perhaps i have two totally different facts mixed. hoping someone can confirm.

Q: How many Microsoft Programmers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: It cannot be done. You will need to upgrade your house.

Re: 717-200 ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_717
After McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing in August 1997,[4] most industry observers expected that Boeing would cancel development of the MD-95. However, Boeing would go forward with the design under a new name, Boeing 717. Some believed Boeing had apparently skipped the 717 model designation when the 720 and then the 727 followed the 707. The 717 name had been used within the company to refer to the KC-135 Stratotanker. 717 had also been used to promote an early design of the 720 to airlines before it was modified to meet market demands. A Boeing historian notes that the air force plane had the designation "717-100" and the commercial airliner had the designation "717-200".[5] The lack of a widespread use of the 717 name left it available to rebrand the MD-95.

Actually the MD90 had the IAE 2500's, and the 95 the BR715's, the MD 80 series used the pratt jt8d-200 series
