President Obama

Post by Invertago »

Looks like he got it... like him or hate him, thank God the election was decisive. Gotta hand it to McCain and his final speech, showed good character and patriotism, something Stephan, Jack and the rest of them could learn from. Going to be an interesting term.

He does have the Hollywood look and has a good speech writer. Kept his foot out of his mouth a lot better then either Biden or Palin.

I'm glad to hear that the new President will be able
to solve the problems in the middle east, and resolve
the financial crisis.

Nobody mentions that the Democrats now control
the house, the senate, and the executive branch. There
can be no excuses for them not solving the problems
facing the USA - they've been given a blank cheque.

One thing I will remember from this election is the
horrible treatment of Palin by the supposedly enlightened
and liberal Democrats and left-leaning media. The vicious
personal attacks were about what you would expect from
an 18th century slave owner. The ugliness they displayed
really tells you something about them.

You have to admit that she kind of asked for it.

I mean, admitting you have foreign relations experience b/c you can see Russia, among all the other screw ups she made... You have to be asking for it.

She dug her own grave. You can't blame other people for helping her.

Congratulations to Obama, the next President.

Phenomenal speeches by both candidates; this is something the Americans seem to do much better than us.
It will be interesting to see what he actually means by change- these are not easy times to lead the free world, and it's a job most people would gladly take a pass on.

For the last eight years the United States has been a dark place governed by an administration characterized by greed, deep corruption, deception, unilateralism, imperialism, mean spiritedness and stupidity. They have withdrawn from the world community and and basically said "F**k you, we will go it alone and God help anyone who stands in our way". And they have dragged the world down with them.

To the world's great relief last night the American people thankfully rejected that path. I shudder to think of the despair and sense of futility the whole world would have felt if it had gone the other way. America and the world have I think truly turned a corner, but we're not out of the woods yet.

Almost half of all Americans voted for McCain knowing full well the chances were good that within four years it would have been President Palin. That to me was the most frightening aspect of this election. Unless saner, more thoughtful heads prevail in the Republican Party they may get another chance to vote for President Palin in 2012.

Actually she might be in the running in 2012, and her $150k wardrobe was not hers. The GOP basically tossed it at her when she got off the plane. It wasn't her call it was from the campaigning budget of her party not tax payers. I'm really not that devoted to either party, but try to put together a mature argument there altiplano. Your attack on Hedley was more typical of a school ground taunting then anything.

In conclusion... I am rubber you are glue, what ever you say bounces off me and sticks to you

sure its a blank cheque. but even a blank signed cheque is useless when theres nothing in the account. its going to be hard to do anything with the treasury so far in the red

No doubt he has a huge task of damage control in front of him. He has to undo a lot of Cheny's damage to both the country and the world. I still hold to my believe that Bush was simply dumb and ignorant and Cheny was the real evil war monger in the white house for the past few years. Obama or McCain would have been a huge improvement over the previous 2 terms. I kinda worry that Obama is a over reaction to having suffered through the last administration. Kinda like, we just put up with Hitler (far right) for 8 years lets elect Stalin (far left), but who knows time will tell. I wish there was a happy middle ground. Though maybe we need Obama's extreme change in direction to get back on a normal track now anyhow. Lets see what 4 years gives us.

Palin is the Governor of Alaska.

You're not.

'Scuse me, how smart did you say she was?

The article in Time magazine (or The Times, I forget) said that Russia was imploding. Double unemployment figures, empty office buildings in Moscow, closed steel factories, food shortages in the big cities - that is VERY bad news for all of us. There is no Russian middle class, just the filthy rich and the workers, who are busy protesting lay-offs and wages in the East right now; the newly-elected PM (or whatever he is) is waving nuclear missiles about.

Oh yeah, Charest has decided to call an election in Quebec! :smt078

I agree that Sarah Palin was unfairly treated by the marxist muslim socialist media, let alone by the Republican party. There's no doubt in my mind that Sarah Palin was every bit an equal successor to Dick Cheney. Same calibre, experience level, etc.

Barrack Obama wrote:It is time to turn the page. When I am President, we will wage the war that has to be won, with a comprehensive strategy with five elements: getting out of Iraq and on to the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan; developing the capabilities and partnerships we need to take out the terrorists and the world’s most deadly weapons; engaging the world to dry up support for terror and extremism; restoring our values; and securing a more resilient homeland.
Barrack Obama wrote:As President, I would deploy at least two additional brigades to Afghanistan to re-enforce our counter-terrorism operations and support NATO’s efforts against the Taliban. As we step up our commitment, our European friends must do the same, and without the burdensome restrictions that have hampered NATO’s efforts. We must also put more of an Afghan face on security by improving the training and equipping of the Afghan Army and Police, and including Afghan soldiers in U.S. and NATO operations.
Barrack Obama wrote:I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges. But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.
Barrack Obama wrote:I will not hesitate to use military force to take out terrorists who pose a direct threat to America. This requires a broader set of capabilities, as outlined in the Army and Marine Corps’s new counter-insurgency manual. I will ensure that our military becomes more stealth, agile, and lethal in its ability to capture or kill terrorists.
Still better than McCain, but overseas how much different is he really? Wouldn't get the hopes up.

I will be a nice boy and bite my tongue on my opinion of the outcome of yesterdays election. I am required by Law to do just that.

If the quoted text from Obama's speech are in fact the real one, I'm surprised none of you have picked it apart as you would if it was a Republicans.

Cheney's first role in Washington wasn't as VP.

Hedley's use of "blank check" was a metaphor, not a reference to the treasury.

Sen Obama will have a lot of reading to do. The job of the President is to make a final decision based on advisers, not going out there and shooting from the hip like most of you think Pres. Bush has done.

America has voiced Her opinion, and I'm prepared to defend her whether I agree with that opinion or not.

I don't know if Topspin's quotes came from Obama or not, but they weren't from his speech last night. Some day when you leave the military and you can view things with the broader perspective, you will realize that Barack Obama may very well have saved your life last night. At the very least he will ensure that if you are wounded or die in the service of your country it won't be for an unjustified war perpetrated by lies.

You have been lied to Nark. You have been used as a pawn by a bunch of criminals persuing a personal agenda that has absolutely nothing to do with defending your country. And those who died in Iraq have been used as cannon fodder. If I were you I would be seethingly angry.
