Renewing a Class IV
Hey guys,
Anyone go through a renewal recently? Care to share what's involved, how much on average it'll cost in SW Ont?
Currently an FO at jazz with +2500hrs and ATPL, interested in getting into instructing. I did my intial class 4 over 4 years ago but never used it (i.e 0 recommends).
Thanks.

Re: Renewing a Class IV
You will need to do the write the class 4 airaf exam and do a ride with a TC examiner. Can't remember what the flight test fee amount was, maybe 200$ + the a/c rental. The written was 35$. I studied with from the ground up, the flight instructor guide, the aim and the c u l h a n e instructor gs course book.
The examiner will tell you what the student did on his last flight and ask you what to do next...then you brief on the subject. In the air demonstrate and allow the student(examiner) to pratice the lesson then do a demonstration of the next lesson.
I briefed on illusions created by drift; then i demonstrated and allowed the examiner to practice it. Then briefly demonstrated a precautionary landing and allowed the examiner to practice. Finally I did a demonstration of a forced landing without all of the checks from 3000ft.
Remember that at some point during the lesson the examiner will intentionally make erros and expect you to critique during the post flight briefing..make sure you take a pen and paper. For me the examiner did the initial takeoff and over used the rudder and it was very obvious this was what he wanted critiqued.
Make sure you make note major and minor weakness to point out and as well as strong areas.
Hope this helps
good luck

I think it's great that you're getting back into instructing, as you can pass on some great knowledge and linking the theories to the BIG pictures as you're already flying in those pics with Jazz.

Renewing a Instructor Rating
Hey All
I am thinking of renewing my Instructor Rating too. I had a Class II at one point, but let it expire many years ago.
My oldest brother renewed his Instuctor Rating last year, I will have to bug him to get the lowdown, and report back any interesting or helpful info!
