Layoff's and Call Back Times

Post by ScudRunner »

So whats the "Industry Standard" time frame for reinstatement? For instance keeping your seniority number or position after being laid off, I heard Jazz is 5 years I would assume AC is the same.

What about Base seniority?

I don't think your seniority number has a best before date. I believe what you're referring to is your call back time. Once your company, Jazz, AC, SkyService or whomever begins recalls, you have to return within a certain time frame. They'll almost always let you finish up a contract or bond if you're signed to one before returning.

I know some guys who were laid off from AC and Jazz after 9/11 and call back time was 1-2 years. Most of these guys ended up flying contract jobs overseas (Vietnam, Japan, India) and made more then they did here. Best of luck to all those that are/will get laid off and hopefully they get called back sooner rather than later.

At Air Canada you MAY be terminated with full severance benefits if your layoff lasts more than 10 years.

I doubt that would ever happen at Air Canada.
32.04.03 Any pilot who is furloughed shall have the option of choosing to remain on furlough or of severing his employment with the Company. However, at the end of ten (10) years of furlough, severance will be automatic unless otherwise mutually agreed between
the Association and the Company. In either case, severance pay based on a pilot's service would be applicable less any furlough pay already received.

January 1, Then its the EI Ski Team!!! But first I'm thinking a month in Oz battling evil stingrays and Kangaroo's.

So 12 Months to be called back then you loose your Seniority # sounds kinda low compaired to AC where its 10 year interesting :?
