How long did it take you to get it, once you submitted your documentation?

I turned the papers in on Dec 4th. I was very surprised to see it so quickly. I got a fat envelope from T.C, rarely a good thing.

Have my booklet too.
Unless I'm missing something, I don't see any mention anywhere of language proficiency in it like on my old license.
Jokes aside (referring to my bad spelling, grammar and syntax) is there any valid reason for it ?

They can't be bothered to spell out four words? It's actually on the license page in abbreviation:
LP: EN/FR
Or would that have meant a bigger license to carry around.

Re: got the new licence
I've obviously missed the boat on this boondoggle.
Will my fancy paper blue one suffice in the years to come, or do I fork over a few dollars and a recent mug shot to get a booklet?
Having only received one threatening collection letter a few years ago, (still 2 years after renouncing citizenship mind you) I doubt I'm in the system.
Any links or insight would save me a call to TC.
Thanks.

Doc, I have a picture of you posing in a towel in the crew house in YPL, I am quit certain that you will not be EVER mistaken for Penelope Cruz, or any other Cruz for that matter.
I am sure that no-one wants to see that. In fact I am not sure if I have lost it in my travels.
Now, mistaken as the Pontif, well that is another story.

The Pontiff in a towel? That's bloody terrifying!Airbrake wrote:Doc, I have a picture of you posing in a towel in the crew house in YPL, I am quit certain that you will not be EVER mistaken for Penelope Cruz, or any other Cruz for that matter.

Whats going to happen if I don't spend my time and money on this thing?

Re: got the new licence
My guess is if they catch you flying without it they will fine you and it probably will be a large fine because it is easy money for them.
So might as well get the abortion they are foisting on us and don't give them the chance to get you in something so simple.

The information is on the TC website -- TC Licence Booklet Information.Nark wrote:I've obviously missed the boat on this boondoggle.

Bottom line, the paper licences will expire at some point (the date differs for each licence type).
That page has a note that clearly hasn't yet been updated. As has been mentioned earlier, they are indeed issuing the booklets now.

Can you show me where the expiry date is on the blue license?
Rule books are paper - they will not cushion a sudden meeting of stone and metal.

Re: got the new licence
I asked them what would happen if I didn't have the new license and they said there would be fines and possibly charges for not flying with a valid license which is a load of BS. I was qualified to fly before this license. I'm still qualified after. The only thing that's changed is for me to have your new little blue book and I'll get fined??? For ATPL and CPL pilots, you are required to apply before the end of March with a small grace period afterwards IF you are are flying in this period. If you aren't flying, you could apply in 2 years and no worries. This whole affair is a waste of money in my mind. I agree with having photo identification but how they've gone about this sucks. I applied for mine in mid-October and have yet to receive it.
Re: got the new licence
cutting out GLISH and ENCH times the number of applications really saves typing ! haha, and TC loves to not work right? I wonder how many permutations that would be.Cat Driver wrote:They can't be bothered to spell out four words? It's actually on the license page in abbreviation:

There was a topic where 2% of the population were pilots. Let's take 30 million, 2% is 6 000 000 x 1! x 2!... they're saving 12 million letters by doing this. Haha !
Re: got the new licence
There is no expiry date PRINTED on the blue licences. That being said, Transport will initiate some sort of regulation that makes the blue ones non-valid during the various phases of the implementation process.Strega wrote:Bottom line, the paper licences will expire at some point (the date differs for each licence type).

Are Senior Commercial Licences still valid? Those also didn't have an expiry date printed on the piece of paper.
Re: got the new licence
And I guess if it was in full letters some will find a way to criticize it saying it's a waste of ink and spaceE-Flyer wrote: cutting out GLISH and ENCH times the number of applications really saves typing ! haha, and TC loves to not work right? I wonder how many permutations that would be.

From the TC website....
All ATPLs and CPLs in the old format will be replaced by March 31, 2009. To retain licence validity, current document holders must apply for an Aviation Document Booklet to replace their old format licences.

I wonder if back in the day (before the current "blue licenses") if people complained this much about having to fill out some paper work to get the new license format?? I highly doubt it.

It's not that people are complaining about having to fill out the paperwork, it's the fact that TC is making us spend more money, something alot of us seasonal bush pilots don't have alot of, especially around xmas.

Re: got the new licence
I agree that it sucks to pay for this. I was lucky enough that my company reimbursed me the $10 I paid for my photos. But if youre a member of CAA, you can go there and get passport photos for free. The paperwork took me 5 minutes to fill out.
This stuff is always a pain in the arse to go through, I admit (not nearly as painful as dealing with the GTAA for a red pass tho...) But we did need change. I think that no matter what TC would have implemented, "some people" would have been complaining no matter what. I havent seen this new document so I dont know what to think. If it were up to me, Id have done something like the USA uses (credit card size license).
