Road trip, Long way around!!!!!!

Post by spinjob »

So after spending my life savings getting my Cpl/Multi/IFR, i'm gonna need to spend a bit more.

-Looked into the instructor route= $6000-9000 with no guarantee of a job.
-Buying a type rating= $10-30,000, No way! ( i like not being judged as scum)
-Moving North for a rampie position= priceless! (6 months-2 yrs of minimum wages)
-International "road trip"= <$3000, great chance to meet people in the industry abroad.

I've looked into a lot of different options to get the "first job", however it looks like I've got to go the distance and find it the old fashioned way, on foot. By then end of this February, I'm heading to Indonesian, and PNG to look for my first flying job.

I've checked out a few companies in Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia as well as their licensing requirements. I'm going to start my trip in Jakarta, and head out from there. I'm going to try and "sell" my AME license to get me on with a company, hopefully this will get me an "in" with the flight dept. I figure a month traveling around and banging on doors should at least get me a job :D , or convince me to take my sorry butt home and get back on the tools. :(

So...Here's where you guys come in! Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as companies, contact info, warnings/recommendations etc... The advice that I've received from members on avcanada has always been great, and i feel your experience and guidance would be a huge help on this trip.

Also, to help fund my trip, I've got to part with some of my "shinny stuff".
so If anyone wants a almost new Garmin 495 or Icon IC-A6 transceiver they're for sale.(pics to follow later today.)

Once again, Thanks for you thoughts.

If you're looking for a job out there you might find better info on the pprune Asian forums.

I've already got a ton of good stuff from PPRUNE.ORG, and posted there too.

However, i was hoping for a more Canadian point of view.

There are only a couple companies in Indonesia that you can get on. I don't know about PNG.

If you have an AME license and a pilot's license, I would bet money you could get on with Susi Air. For more info on these guys, PM me.

I think Travira may hire expats, but you would need some time. There are missionary companies but they have some serious requirements and pre-requisites. AMA would be an exception. They aren't hardcore missionary and they pay you decently (for Indo). For more info, PM me.

I think Lion Air may hire as well, but again experience and ratings are helpful.

Cheers,

JAC

Even if you don't find a flying job the trip will be a priceless experience.

Check your email or PM me.... you have exactly what we're looking for and no 2 years on the ramp. Last guy hired ramp did 100 hours PA31 F/O flying in his first "ramp" month and is already on the 206 (new H model with Sandel) and we are waiting on our brand new Quest later this year. Don't go to a loser company!

Is that "shinny stuff" still for sale? How much are you looking for them?

You can PM me about 'em.
