Well i'm glad i don't have a degree, since i'd be pretty pissed about missing an opportunity by actually HAVING a license

Yeah, can someone out there explain the relevance or benefit of hiring people with no license. I would think a trained pilot with industry experience would be a better candidate to fly an Airbus. :?:

Well, the ad does say, "not holding" a CPL or ATPL... so technically you could just let your medical lapse and you would not be "holding" said license.... technically.

Actually if you look at the site it says "Applicants with CPL, Frozen ATPL, or have completed there Commercial Training are not elligable" So if you are just waiting for your CPL flight test you are still SOL. This is why they don't find people in Canada if they opened it up to CPL's under say 300 or 400TT or something They would find the people they are looking for. (I Didn't even know this site existed back when i was just a PPL)

I read the ad and thought...if you don't want skilled pilots why post in an aviation site? And what is wrong with the citizens of your own country? Especially if they are training them from the bottom.... I'm sure there are some UAE citizens or other nearby countries that would love the chance.
Emiraties like hiring westerners....

Not sure why they're even posting here, as after reading the whole job posting on their website, this shows up at the bottom:

"Please be advised that we have closed applications for this program due to the overwhelming number of applications received. Those who have received an email confirming that we have received your application for assessment at the chosen destination are kindly requested to wait for further information which will be sent by email one month prior to the assessment date. "

Other than that, they'll cover all training costs up to 500,000 AED (163,000CAD), and pay you while your training. Down side is you have to give them 60 months at a minimum once your done training.

Well, wouldn't you know!!! When I didn't have an ATPL I didn't qualify and now that I have worked so hard to get it, I still don't qualify. Who da thunk it?

This cadet scheme they have is no different than other airlines who do it. For the cadetship, they don't want prior experience. I know some airlines like Cathay have hired cadets who had a CPL, but they were HKG citizens. Etihad is NOT seeking citizens for this cadetship apparently. Any other airline with a cadet scheme (there's not too many nowadays) do not hire non-citizens, so consider this a good opportunity if you dont mind the mid-east.

If you want to apply for a regular FO spot, I think Etihad wants 1500hrs with 500 jet/glass for the A320, and 2500hrs for the 777 and 340 FO. Maybe Im confusing them with Gulf Air, Im not sure, so check the website for their requirements.

Not everyone on here is 10000hr airline/charter pilot. Alot come here for information about getting started in their careers. Some just have a private license and maybe wondering if they should take the next step and get a commercial. This might be a good thing for them the way the market is right now.

From their website in case anyone is interested:

For A320 FO http://careers.etihadairways.com/ehire/ ... tails.aspx
A minimum of 1500 hours total flying time and
A minimum of 1000 hours on multi crew,glass cockpit jet aircraft and
ICAO ATPL,valid licence and medical
Must be current and
Maximum age limit is 53 years old and
English Language Fluency ( written and verbal )
Preference would be given to candidates with Airbus experience
The hours mentioned above shall be on powered fix wing aircraft only

For 777 and A330/340 FO, it's 2500hrs total time.

I spent one day in Abu Dhabi... not long, but it's basically Dubai, except a little behind schedule. Some people like it there, but I don't think it would be for me. I heard a foreign couple got two years for having sex on the beach not too long ago.

I also wouldn't participate in such a program. There's a lot more in between that you would be missing out on. If you want to do the Emirates or Etihad thing, do it later on.

Abu Dhabi is pretty westernized. They are fairly tolerant of westerners...alchohol is available in the country, women do not have to cover their faces (though all the locals still wear traditional dress) and every service and amenity (PLUS MORE) available in any first world country is available.

As long as you remember you're in an arab country and don't do something extremely foolish, it is a very safe and reasonable place.

Touche to that !!! It seems funny that a big airline rather puts a 20 year old 250 hrs pilot in an airbus than a more experienced one. The longer I am in this industry the less I understand it !!!
