ATPL waivers?
I'm curious to hear if anyone has ever applied for a waiver for some of the ATPL requirements.
ie. The 100 night PIC, or the total time because of aircraft types etc...
What was the process?

I think that if you stick to the dotted lines when making the folds your might have some aviation success.

I thought all the CPL's flying around these past few years were entitled to everything they want just for sitting in the right seat of God knows what!!! The unfortunate part of this slow down for "those types" that feel they are entitled to everything that is out there is that they may now have to work for what they want

There's your ATPL waiver.(6) Restricted Licence - Aerial Work Only
(a) Where an applicant has not completed the instrument flight time requirement or the night flight time requirement, the licence shall be issued restricted to aerial work only and the total dual and solo flight time requirements for the issue of the licence shall be met.
(b) Where an applicant completes the instrument flight time and night flight time requirements, the restriction shall be removed.

Cat Driver, the reason I'm asking is because I've hard of people getting waivers for different things....
All my time is right seat on 2 types over 12,500, so I don't have hardly any of the night pic required.
I'm just trying to find a way to avoid having to shell out $$$ to rent a 152 and fly around at night.

if your company has the supervised pilot in command program you are allowed to log PIC time under supervision.

dxpr thanks for answering, I tend to agree that the rules are to rigid and there should be some room for deciding what is needed.
In a case such as yours the 100 hours night time in a small bug smasher will not make you that much better as a pilot.....it will put you at risk of dying if you should have an engine failure in a single engine at night though.
What I can't figure out is how TC will allow you to fly in cloud with an instrument rating but if you don't have 100 hours flying in the dark you can't get a ATPL.
But I am sure someone will explain it to us.

I do admit that letting a 1500 hour instructor get his ATPL before someone with real world experience is bullshit, but there is something to be said for command time. You should not be able to get your AA's without ever having to make a major decision in your life. Even the small decisions are important experience in your career.

like Tim said above, you can get some time done as PIC Under Suppervision, if your company is approved and if your CP approves it for you. The requirement is not 100PIC Cross Country at night, it is only 25PIC at night and you can do the 75 as copilot which you probably have already. So, if you get approved for PIC U/S, you'll have to do 50hrs at night cross country under suppervision (because you have to do twice as much just like copilot time) and of course 75hrs copilot at night cross country, to meet the 100h night requirement.
You don't need any special PPC (or a left seat check) as long as you can do everything from the right seat except taxing the plane. check in the CARs for all the exact requirement, but if your aircraft is over 12500, usually you should be alright...
like cat said, it is totally stupid to think that flying 25hrs at night, on a clear night, in a populated area, in a 152, will help you become a better pilot, when you have probably over 2500hrs and have shot so many approches in half mile vis at night in a mid-size turbo prop! I think you know what your doing by now!

its a hoop many of us have had to jump through. For example, lots of guys who come off floats to IFR flying get stuck in the same boat... how do you get night PIC time when you have to be co-joe to start out in an IFR outfit? The PIC under supervision program was designed for this I believe and although the 2 for 1 hrs thing is a bitter pill to swallow... any and all flying will hopefully garner you more experience to draw on when you really need it.
Relax, sit rightseat in the dark for a few months and you'll soon have your 2 "A"s beside your number (as long as you hve the 25 night x-cross PIC
). You got in this game to fly airplanes didn't you? Once you are left seat again, you will wistfully remember the times when the 3 bars stood for... not my fault!

ATPL.
For example, last fall I renewed my class 1 instructor rating
via a refresher course. It was well worth it. But Transport
said that the course wouldn't renew my class 1 aerobatic
instructor rating, because "there was some doubt about
my ability to perform aerobatic maneuvers".
What the f_ck?! I probably fly more surface level aerobatics
than anyone else in Canada. I have a current SFOC. Last
year alone, I did FIVE different low-altitude evaluations on
FIVE DIFFERENT AIRCRAFT TYPES for my ICAS (airshow pilot
Statement of Aerobatic Competency) card, which I am sure
is more than any other pilot in Canada.
But hey, the requirements are the requirements, so I
have to do a ride to renew my class one aerobatic

having to meet the legal requirements, do you? If
I don't want to do the ride, I don't get my class one

altiplano: I would love to have had a job where I could have had some PIC, but it just didn't work out that way. Now I'm at my career job, and I don't want to leave to get some PIC, cause they won't let me come back!
