How much?
hi everyone,
Once your training finished, do you know how much you really spent on it?
Did the school respect their quote and the duration of the course?
PS: I know it depends on the student(and a few other things...) but it could be interresting to get a general idea.
thanks

Re: How much?
i would plan on spending a bit of extra cash, but provided you keep up your end of the workload and your instructor books you at a regular and frequent pace you *should* finish on budget. if you fly only on weekends or something like that you will probably going to go over time.nolan974 wrote:hi everyone,

PPL = Free $cholarship
GPL = Credits towards CPL ($aved $$)
CPL + Float = $23k
Includes charts, FTM, ACWM + workbook, FTGU, Instrument Procedures Manual, C"badword" Written Test Guide, a CFS I found in the recycling bin along with a CAP and CAP Gen, I bought an current CFS for my flight test, also other randoms ...
The quotes are for the bare minimum. It's up to you to complete within the min's in order to keep with the quote. It WILL vary from person to person for your expense. But again, the closer you get to min's, the more accurate the FTU quote will be. They don't pull that number out of some small dark place. I would plan a budget 6k give or take over the required amount.

Re: How much?
Having jut finished my PPL last September, I spent $18000.
I spent lots extra, flight computer, maps, books, headsets, checkout on 2 planes....
If you are a keener, use $16000 and you will not go over budget,

Women and planes have alot in common
Both are expensive, loud, and noisy.
However, when handled properly both respond well and provide great pleasure

Holy Crap... that's a lot! Even with a check out in two planes and "maps and stuff" it must have taken you at least 85 hours.Having jut finished my PPL last September, I spent $18000.
Averaging $16K is still WAY too much. Realistically it's around $10-12K MAX.
I spent around $35K for a PPL, CPL, Float, Multi IFR, and check outs on three or four planes. To each their own.

PPL was around $7500-$8000 (47 Hrs.)
CPL was another $27,000 ish (200 hrs. all of my time building included)
Float Rating was $2200 (7 Hrs. in a 180)

Re: How much?
Ditto, but make the float rating an instructor rating. Though depending on where you are in the country you can range from 30k to 50-60kI spent around $35K for a PPL, CPL, Float, Multi IFR, and check outs on three or four planes. To each their own.
Re: How much?
About $15K for PPL including books but not gas for driving to and from CYBB and home and the 2 airline tickets for interview with CX and DA back in Hong Kong. I took a 4 months break and have to relearn a lot of stuff so that added to my bill. Also, I can't get a booking for the life of me so the large gap between flights added to my rust.
Re: How much?
I kept track of all my expenses for my flight training. I still remember the number. For CPL + multi IFR + instructor rating + books, supplies, licensing and exam fees, etc was $43,252.23. That was a few years ago.
Re: How much?
Thanks for your quick replies guys!
In fact my question concerned the cost for PPL/CPL/MIR, full time.
Thanks again!

Re: How much?
Holy, yikes. Kinda glad I didn't keep track. Better yet, my wife didn't keep track. Don't know what mine cost but the PPL definitely went way beyond "normal" because of previous commitments that did not allow me to "focus". It dragged on and on. Don't let this happen. The CPL was different. Just before I finished the PPL I bought a plane, got the hours needed and signed up for CPL with goals in mind and time set aside. Stayed on site and either slept in a trailer or once in a while rented a room. Flew 2-3 hours every day in my own plane, did ground school at the same time and kept the same instructor for every minute. I did find the work load tough as I had not been in a "classroom" environment for 20 years, never was declared "smart" and found it more than a little difficult in re-teaching myself to learn, if that makes sense. Flew that plane for about 300 hrs or so and sold it for $22K more than I had paid. Quit flying for 1 1/2 years and then decided to buy a float plane instead of quiting for good. Did my float rating on that (trading it for my labour on the dock). As said above, to keep it to the quote, you need to keep your end of the agreement. Be there, be committed. If you have absolutely anything else on your mind, you will exceed the minmums which will cost more money.

Re: How much?
It's called government subsidization lol. I go to Sault College. I pay normal tuition for the college diploma, and then get all of the flight training free. I could have gotten all of it for free, however I managed to get my PPL before I started the program.moocow wrote:Please do explain how you manage to swing that kind of sweet deal.
