ok, thanks, i wonder if they ever thought of using 215/415 down there or is there not enough of a water supply to support scoopers.

IIRC, there's been a serious drought in Oz for at least the past 5 years - so any decent water for the ducks has long since dried up. Also, again IIRC, Oz is a pretty dry place anyway - are there enough decent lakes to make a duck practical vs a retardant machine?
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

They evaluated the 12 door DC6 around '83 but didn't bite. It might have been a "suitable aerodrome" issue.

I happened to have had the incredible experience of taking 2 CL 215's to Aus for 6 months on a marketing venture with Bombardier ,we worked with the support of National Jet Systems based in Adelaide. We toured all of Aus doing demos and airshows. Fire behaviour in extreme conditions as with what they are faced with now is beyond any Aerial and ground suppression action. Its in survival mode at this point. My prayers are with all those affected and hope Mother Nature will let on them soon.

Our company currently has 2 S61's down there fighting fires. I know of a couple 212's as well, but im not sure who is operating them. I think Erickson is there as well. As for the fixed wing aspect I have only heard of 802's and dromadiers( sp?)
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.
