AME, piloting etc
My situation: I applied to Confederation, Sault, and Centennial.
Confederation for flight training and Sault for flight training and AME:
My average is 75% and I didn't get in any of them and now in waiting list. What's the chance of me getting in? I already called and they said they don't know...
Centennial for AME:
If I don't get in for pilot training, I could go for AME. If I worked as an AME for a flight school, would they give me discounts on learning to fly? Another option is I could go for a police college in Seneca, and earn $ being a police constable and do pilot training on the side. As a note, I really want to become a pilot, but I wouldn't be miserable doing other things because I am a happy guy but I'm sure I'll be a pilot sooner or later.
So my question is which way would be faster, beoming AME or police officer, in the end, to become a pilot?

forget about being an ame or a cop, go to dental school. You'll not only be able to pay for pilot training, you'll own one of the nicest aircraft at your local ga airport. But seriously if you want to be a pilot, then be a pilot! Getting an ame license will take two years of schooling, and then another two years as an apprentace making $14. My advice to you is to look into other flight training options, other than a diploma course. Check out some ftu's where you live, this will save you a great deal of money and time.
My two cents, hope it helps.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood, did you apply to centennial for flight training and AME or only AME? If you applied to centennial for flight training, you have indicated that you are willing to pay for the flight training. Why not go to school for AME and pay for the training on the side from the local FTU? Over two years plus two years of apprenticing you should easily be able to get your multi-ifr, and during the apprentice period, be able to start working off the flying debt.

I did my flight training during my AME apprenticeship. Was able to pay for a PPL and float rating cash and worked a deal with a flight school and got a great discount on my CPL. With various free hours ferrying and test flying aircraft and doing my multi-IFR as part of my commercial buildup, I did the whole shebang for less than 30,000.zlin_pilot wrote:Why not go to school for AME and pay for the training on the side from the local FTU? And the aircraft stays nice (well, mostly) because you never have time to fly it. Small-medium business owners might not have the best aircraft, but they at least use them.
I have lost track of how many doctor/lawyer/have-too-much-money-and-not-enough-time types who's aircraft I've fixed had no appreciable time in the log book the previous year and a whole pile of neglect related snags to fix.

Re: AME, piloting etc
I agree, 2 years is a long time to be studying...but I need to find a job so I can pay for flight training beacuse right now I can't afford it.
Did you do this without going to an AME school? I don't know much about how AME apprentices are hired, and how I would go about applying to these places. People just go around schools and give off resumes?I did my flight training during my AME apprenticeship.
