Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
I was the designer of the Caravan Kit at AOG. Ther were two aircraft built one is in peices in kamloops in a legal battel between David Baron the former CEO and the Investor who put the money up to develope the program. A note Mr. Baron was charged by Transport Canada for installing automotive parts on comercial aircraft and is in the appeals court in B.C. Vancouver.
The other caravan is in waco texis but is not flying. The program is from what I undrestand being restarted with a Canadian Engineering group in Vancouver B.C.
Just a note, there also is a Canadian Patent granted to myself and a partner of mine on the manipulation of a Leading Edge Modification on the NACA 12000 series airfoil.

It would be great if they could redesign the 'Van to be able to carry more than 1/32" of ice..
Maybe Dave should put a Beaver wing on it...?

Hey
HS-748 2A they have come up with a new system for that, they went weeping wings and spray from prop to basically coat the entire thing with de-ice fluid from a tank in the first pod. The caravan wont be coming with de-ice boots and cessna wont make them anymore.

Does seem crazy to have built a 'bush-plane' that needs all that junk though doesn't it...

She was never Built as a "bush plane". Operators have made the choice to use her as such.

Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
The reason I invested in this company was the track record of Dave Baron, ie. Beaver and Otter mods. As well, they were still building the aircraft type with about 1600 already manufactured. Dave told me once in a phone converstation that it greatly improved the operations in icing conditions. And the icing (excuse the pun) on the cake, FEDEX was interested in the mod.Chunter wrote:I was the designer of the Caravan Kit at AOG. Sounded like as good an investment as any. Good track record, expanding market, addressing issues. Ah well, I'll have to work an extra month or two after this "investment"!

Too bad the Dhc-2 isn't in production.

The LE STOL kit is about to get started again by a US operator using Canadian engineering and certification.
Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
I would be interested to hear more details on this. What's the plan?

Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
I'm fairly well acquainted with STOL kits on the smaller Cessna singles, Would a STOL cuff on the wing make a Caravan noticeably more versatile within its capabilities?
Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
What kind of performance changes from the new kit ?

Re: Cessna Caravan Stol Kit
That's that Hot Wings mod from years ago that includes the winglets. Is there something else up for approval?

Hello Pipsqueek,
I had a lot of interest in that project and the potential for the Caravan. When the aircraft was moved to Vancouver, I was never able to make contact with the "new principal" (the investor???) who, to the best of my memory, obtained the legal rights to it from AOG. If you know who is working on it, please contact me via dave@canstar-itc.ca. Thanks...
