Are fast jets really that twitchy when they fly?

First time I flew a little (tactical) jet, I was
amazed at how twitchy it was, to precisely
hold altitude at cruising speed.

But after all, lift is proportional to velocity SQUARED.

Anyways, the ancient scooter/skyhawk/A-4 had
a roll rate of 720 degrees per second. Now, it
being an "old airplane", I'm not sure that any of
the SOP monkeys here in white shirts with four gold
bars on their shoulders would be interested in
flying one

In formation at a reasonable speed (300-350) you can actually stir the stick around a bit, and while the airplane jiggles around your position relative to the other airplane won't really change. Faster than that though and close formation while maneuvering becomes more of a challenge. The worst movement in the video is PIO, but the guy rapidly settled down and got in phase with it.

I sat in an A4 and couldn't even come close to full control deflection due to my legs. I think you'd certainly have to be under 6' to fly one. Even then you'd need the legs of a heroin addict to not get in the way.

What makes you feel the need to slam someone like that? You're a big man, you have nothing to be bitter about, you lead a successful life, you shouldn't feel the need to have have to make that kind of statement.

Airline types get paid to do follow SOPs and wear 4 cheese doodles on their shoulders. It puts bread on their family's tables and I am sure if they had the opportunity to play with the toys you have access to they would love it. What more do you need from them? What's the problem? You talk about being dead inside. I question the internal battle that's going inside that head of yours if you have to make such statements considering the position you're in. Here's one just for fun and it shows what it was like to fly in 1985 for £105 a day expenses.
I walked into the hangar this afternoon to find the mechanics looking me up on the internet and here's something they found:

In the last bit of the film the director asked me to roll upside down while Steve leaned out to grab the camera.
I told him I'd half roll the Stampe and then barrel it out because there's no way Steve would be able to hold onto that camera with negative G.
The effect was even more scary than a simple slow roll to the inverted since it was like diving off the top of a building!

I took both the actors up for aerobatic flights with the camera on them.
It was great fun.
- The aeroplanes were warmed up and ready to go... You just got in and helpful hands would strap you in. A bit like the Battle of Britain.
- No checklists, no radio, just go fly. (Of course I had to memorise the RAF checks before I did my first solo in a 150).
- I checked myself out in the 450 Stearman... Spandaus took up the front cockpit cover.

It's a view to a different world 24 years ago in this pilot's career.

Great video. Hedley's comments made me look up the designer of the A4, The plane had 3 nick-names. Heineman's Hot Rod, The Scooter, The Tinker Toy or Tink for short.
