Hawkair pilots are unionized

Post by floydb »

I just heard this news and it's from a reliable source that they now belong to operating engineers, same bunch that West Coast pilots belong to I believe. I wonder where this will get them and whether or not the upper management is gonna play ball with this or what? Has anyone else got any info on this.

The bosses don't like unions, so this could get interesting. I think some of the pilots are thinking they can hide behind the union for some of those expensive and stupid screwups as of late...

Don't get me wrong, most of them are great people and great pilots, but there's always a few in there...like everywhere else.

I think this is the first foray for them into unionland. This is probably a lengthy process at the best of times and if the owners don't want to cooperate I would hate to bet on the eventual outcome, one can only hope for all concerned that cooler heads prevail. Should be interesting  .

They had attempted to unionize before the financial difficulties. If you go back through some of their bankruptcy documents I am sure you will find the threat to unionize was one of the catalysts for filling for creditor protection when they did.

The pilots had threatened to unionize again through the same union as West Coast Air. I have heard rumours that is has gone to a vote, but no formal union or vote has taken place...time will tell.
