tax claims

Post by Foo Fighter »

I did a 7hr float rating last year, and I'm wondering if I can claim it on income tax as a tuition expense? Employment was gained as a result of completing the rating.

Also, anyone claim uniforms as an expense come tax time?

Did a search but couldn't come up with anything of use.

Thanks

FF

your flight training is deductible, not sure exactly which form you would use (call the CRA, they are actually very helpful). the uniform is not though (everyone needs to wear clothes to work) unless there is some sort of job specifc element to it (i.e. a survival suit you had to pay for).

Your flight training is deductible. Have the place where you took your course fill out a Form TL11B. Tim was right, uniforms aren't deductible anymore. The gov't introduced the employment amount to cover incidentals such as this a couple of years ago.
