MY buddy lucked out on an aerospace engineering job with Bombardier yesterday. The new grad program has been cancelled which he had applied for. He also applied for a position that required 8 years experience and go hired for it. Talk about luck! Its exactly what he wanted, working for exactly the company he wanted and it made me think. Pilots on this side of the globe anyways, usually dont get hired into a company they end up sticking around with for the rest of their career. I mean for my friend this is it.

Well, that depends.
For some of us, going to "work" isn't drudgery ... its just going to a place where they have nicer toys to play with than we've got at home.
I've been building model airplanes since I wasn't much more than a toddler, so all I'm doing is what I've thought would be interesting for a long time. Before he died, my dad was convinced I'd never ever worked a day in my life!
For those of you that are taking it where the sun don't shine every single day, well ... you have my sympathy.

I love flying floats. I love living in Whistler. I love being on the water all day long. I love accessing high alpine lakes and buzzing around the mountains. I really enjoy meeting new people and blowing their minds showing off our awesome backyard. I enjoy the challenges of Vancouver and Victoria Harbour and YVR. I love going in and out of remote beautiful lakes and inlets that don't see much float plane traffic. I love the power of a turbo prop and I love...well, you get the point. I have my dream job.
I think the biggest part of getting your dream job is actually knowing what and where that dream job is. Then all you have to do is pursue it. (For 9 years! Ha ha.)
I knew I wanted to fly for Whistler Air from the first day I started training. I knew what sort of experience was needed to get the job, so I put my head down and went where I had to go, and flew what I had to fly, and lived where I had to live, and put up with a ton of bullshit along the way, in order to get the experience I needed to get the job.
And now that I'm here, I try to be a positive contributor to the company in and out of the cockpit and I feel very comfortable with my long term job security. (This site definitely has more than it's share negativity.)
But just like buying your dream house or dream car, unless you know exactly what it is you're looking for, well, you're going to have a pretty tough time finding it.
