Everything Is Better In Toronto

Michael Domb plans to celebrate birthday with pilot's license

Domb is looking to become Canada's youngest pilot, taking a solo flight and earning his private pilot's license on his 14th birthday this June.
Toronto is such a great city, that Federal laws do not apply there.

In the rest of Canada, you have to wait until you are 17 years old
to get your Private Pilot's licence. But not in the Great Toronto Area!

DIVISION VI - PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE

Please be specific here. Are we to take from your post that you do not understand the difference between a Student Pilot Permit and a Private Pilot's License?

Um,

I think she's trying to say the media once again can't tell the difference between a SPP, and a PPL. I think it's pretty obvious what the issue is.

Of course the original poster knew that too.... good troll though.

I am, by far, no english expert. How I read it is that he's is earnING his PPL by taking his first solo on his 14th bday. Just like he's earning his PPL when he completes the written, does his solo cross-country etc.. It doesn't mean he's earnED his PPL at the point.

I read it as he is earning his pilot's license on his fourteenth birthday.

But don't correct them please. They would probably have a field day if they found out that a fourteen year old could get what is in effect, a 'learner's permit' for flying and fly by themselves with no direct supervision.

Even though they are probably safer doing circuits and bumps at Buttonville than taking the family car on the 401.

I was just pointing out that 14 was the minimum age for your first solo. Of course the media screwed the finer details, lets just be thankful that they didn't say he was flying a 747. I tried to confirm that they didn't post a picture of a passenger jet beside this story, but I think it was taken down.

I have had the misfortune to spend a total of ten years of
my life living in Toronto, and I heartily agree with widebody300er.

Never again.

There are many, many better places in Canada (and Lord
knows, the rest of the world) to reside.

You can discover for yourself why Toronto is the sphincter
of Canada. Look at a VFR chart, or VTA. See all those
concentric circles? That's where the hose would go, if
Canada was to have an enema.

My hardware to the table? You mean let what I fly define me as a person? That would be sad and shallow. The eyes are fine and see quite well beyond what I want to see. The world from a crew bus and hotel room looks ok I admit but you actually have to venture off the beaten path and out of the lobby bar to see that. Toronto is far from the asshole of Canada or ony country for that matter. You would know that as a traveller of the world.

There is no need to defend it to the likes of you though. Some like it, some don't. If your'e happy not being in Toronto, maybe they are happy not having you there.

I never said it was better than anywhere Hedley, but there are plenty of worse in Canada and around the world.

Haha. I think it's Canadian's who don't live in Ontarios' nature to hate Ontario, or Toronto. The west seems to have a hard on for Toronto, yet with their higher crime rate, see Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, high rent, see BC and AB, dirty streets, see Calgary and Edmonton, traffic problems, see Calgary and the lower mainland, what's there to go on about. Every city has it's problem, I don't know why people hate Toronto, the girls are a lot friendlier, see Vancouver. Can't we all be friends?

Lies!!
All of the streets in Alberta are paved with gold, everybody drives brand new pick-up trucks with sterling silver bumpers and mahogany gun racks inna back window. The back alleys are only paved with silver though.

(: It is kind of funny how territorial people get, though-human nature of the tribe to love/defend your own hunting ground more.
Can't we all be friends?
Sure. As long as you're not from____________. Those guys are all real bastards.

I wouldn't like to live in Toronto because of these reasons:

1. rent is too high
2. traffic/commute/bus/subway, whatever is too long to get to work
3. too many panhandlers
4. too much traffic
5. beer in a bar is too expensive
7. I get the general impression that people from Toronto think their shit don't stink
8. too many people to dodge or encounter when walking down the street. I like to walk alone.
9. too much pollution

I couldn't have the pogey lifestyle I'm leading now if I lived in Toronto, that's for sure, but I think if you had PILES of money and lived downtown it wouldn't be too bad, maybe.

I've never gotten that impression from Torontonians I've met - however the rest of the country seems to think that Torontonians are full of themselves. Must be penis envy or something...
