Buffalo Oops
The amphibious CL215, Canadian registration C-FTXB, was being used for pilot training at Izmir, Turkey. During a landing at the airport, the landing gear was not selected down and the aircraft's centre keel made contact with the runway before the landing was aborted and a go around was successfully carried out. The aircraft returned back to the airport and landed uneventfully with the landing gear down and locked. A post-occurrence inspection revealed slice-through damage to the center keel beam consistent with ground contact. The damage on the center keel starts approximately 3-4 feet forward of the water drop doors and widens in the aft direction (in a tapered shape) to approximately 10 inches from each side of the keel. There was damage to the ribs and structural members inside the hull.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Buffalo Oops
I remember hearing Buffalo sold one or maybe two of the machines that were at ZF recently. The others he operated but belong to the government no?
Anyways, nobody got hurt. How many times do have the opportunity to forget the gear, hit the ground, go around.....then come in and land after something like that
Cheers,

I have had that opportunity tens of thousands of times but I passed on the opportunity by making sure the gear was down.Anyways, nobody got hurt. How many times do have the opportunity to forget the gear, hit the ground, go around.....then come in and land after something like that

Re: Buffalo Oops
Not to mention the onboard system designed to safe guard against it happening in the first place. Sounds like something was misconfigured.

Re: Buffalo Oops
Is that the second training 'oops' this year, now? (Not for Buffalo, I hasten to add - just the fleet in general)

Re: Buffalo Oops
I'm not quite sure sure but if i remember correctly a 215 doesn't have a gear warning horn since does water pickups. As well all the 215's that went over were bought by the turkish govt and buffalo are just doing the training with their military pilots. Apparently its not going very well.....

Re: Buffalo Oops
Actually they are not training military pilots! Yes Buffalo sold the 2 that they owned and Airspray has sold the 3 they owned to Turkey as well. The 3 Airspray machines are in the process of being ferryed over right now and the one of ex-
Buffalo machine that had an OOP's will be out of service for at least a year. One Airspray machine is now in Turkey, another is in Newfoundland and not sure where the 3rd one is.

Both ships in St John`s. Tasked with going to Turkey to replace SEATs. The irony is SEATs have replaced them.
