Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
What model aircraft are you considering to import?
Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
Cessna 150, I have done as much as I can to assertain the log books are up to date and have read the TC form. The AC is located in Florida, I almost want to fly an AME down and go through all the paperwork and cover every base that can be covered down there before purhcasing the AC and flying it home. In other words I want a profesional to tell me it will pass the MD-M inspection on arrival. This way, if there are any issues I can have the seller fix or repair the items before import.
Thanks
Thanks

Free advice, which I am sure to be flamed for:
Have the vendor photocopy the airframe and engine
logs, and send them up to you. Also get the 337
list from the FAA, for this registration. Do a lien
search at the same time.
Give this information to the AME/AMO you are
going to use for the import. They can tell you if
the AD's are up to date, and if there are going to
be any problems with any of the 337's eg modifications
with no STC's, or damage repairs without enough
detail.
Ok, flame away now

Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
No Flaming here, Hedley! Solid advice, especially with respect to the 337 list!!
Best to do the search NOW rather then later and find out there's a truckload of work required to get the machine back up to manufacturer's specs required to be certified in Canada.
Been therem done that and the owner ended up blaming me for something I HAD ALREADY ADVISED HIM TO CHECK before HE BOUGHT IT!!
Maybe it just been my experience, but I've seen alot of Field mods carried out with ONLY a 337 form and no STC!
This can be very costly to the owner!

Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
Thanks Guys,
Great info, Can I recieve information regarding the 337's If I purchase the information provided by the FAA registry N-Number Inquiry (about $10) also, will this give me info regarding any liens. I know you will probably tell me to contact the FAA but anything to minimize interaction with a massive govt organization is good.
Thanks

Some reading:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/IMSdo ... 03.htm#7-2
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/IMSdo ... 03.htm#7-2
7.2.2
A completed FAA Form 337, completed and signed in block three (3) by an authorized FAA Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) constitutes the approval of technical data.
Re-read the above. Let me know if you reach the same conclusions I do.7.4.2
Major repairs and alterations that include data approved by the FAA using the field approval process may be accepted in the following manner:
With the exception mentioned in paragraph (b) below, FAA approved or accepted alterations per 14 CFR Part 43, installed on a product exported from the U.S., regardless of the State of Design of the product, are considered approved by TCCA at the time of import to Canada. TCCA will accept such FAA alteration data when substantiated via an appropriately executed FAA Form 8110-3, FAA Form 8100-9, FAA Form 337 (block 3) or logbook entry.
Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
I know a great AME who has done many, many of these
PM for more information. It would be easier to speak on the phone.

Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
The 377s should be in there as well as lien info. The bad news is last time I ordered one it took over a month to arrive. Watch out for "minor alterations" that someone decided a logbook entry was all that was needed.denkauto wrote:Thanks Guys,

Re: Best AME/AMO for Import
Thanks again guys,
Hedley, based on the helpful link you provided 337's are considered approved in USA and perhaps not so in Canada, basically these need to be substantiated by either one of the two forms or a logbook entry? In terms of the highlighted portion in your cut and paste please explain. It would appear that alterations considered major in the US may be minor in Canada, my question is would all of these issues if caught, be correctable.
