Kinda confused
K I did the testing session a few years ago and passed, but didn't really prepare for the interview and didn't make it. About a year and a half after that I did the testing, then actually prepped for the interview, and got in the hiring pool for ... 18 months I believe it was, but there were no call-ups. My candidacy expired, but I had busy at work and life so I hadn't done it again until a few days ago, on the new site.
Now I was told that I was unsuccessful with the online testing. I remember that I had a problem with the cognitive testing when I submitted it, so I called to check to make sure that wasn't the problem. The agent on the phone (who was very nice by the way), told me that the problem was with the personality test.
???????? I just don't understand. I know that it's a tricky type of personality test, with the same question posed about 4 different ways (affirmative, negative, etc). And I tried to answer it and be honest, but..... I am wondering, should I have just answered it and tried to be super-person? "I like working in intense, stressful jobs with no breaks and would turn in my own grandmother if she took more than the one free sample at costco."
I also know that the whole testing process has changed, but I just can't see how I could get into the pool before, and then not even get past the online sessions now, due to personality? How well can a test define my personality?
Maybe I'm just really confused. And disappointed.

Be brutally honest. I can take it.

Maybe there are other people that they'd prefer to hire due to qualifications, testing etc.
Re: Kinda confused
This is my opinion, just an opinion. I think ATC and FSS look for a very specific attitude and personality. I've found over the years that people in ATS tend to ahve very similar personalities and character traits. Personally i'm very confident (my wife calls it cocky) and very competitive, that being said i'm not a jerk about it and i don't throw it in your face...well not too much!! I'm motivated and very driven to always do the best job whenever i can and get upset with myself when i can't bring my skills up to the level where I think they should be. In my job my work comes in spurts but whn there is work to do, any work i keep at it til it's done. I'm also very friendly and am an outspoken person who love to talk (too much i'm told). PLus the single most important part of my personality that is my biggest asset is my ability to keep at it, no matter what happens, no matter what comes up i know i can deal with it mainly becasue there is no one else i haev to do it or people could get hurt. I have unending confidence in my ability to deal with whatever happens, there is either a rule or practice i can apply or i'll wing it and make it through.
I think these things plus the basic cognitive skills are what NC is looking for. I doubt there looking for yes men, but i'm sure theylike that sometimes! My advice is to be honest and truthful at all times throughout the process. The recruitment process is designed to weed out those that don;t have the skills to do the job. If you don;t make it through some portion of the testing iot means that you deficient on one of the area's they feel is required to do the job. But on the other hand maybe it wasa bad day keepat it, perseverence is a hell of a character trait too. Good luck!

Re: Kinda confused
That's the answer I was looking for. You can see why I am confused. I mean, I was there, on the list, and then shut down so early. Kind of disheartening. I mean, the job I do now wouldn't be considered "stress-free". Fly on the east coast into some airports at min's isn't stress free.
