Whats up With CanWest
I was told CanWest was a reasonabley run company, well organized and a good place to work but it seems to be quite the opposite lately. Just heard they have gone through round two of layoffs even though I understand their business hasn't decreased much. Was told they prided themselves on maintaining their employes. Wonder if it has anything to do with the management there. I heard it has gone way down hill over the last year.
Re: Whats up With CanWest
Like many in media these days - too much debt and a declining business segment.
They had trouble renewing their debt a few weeks ago - I kept checking to see if globalTV went off air but they got their debt renegotiated at the 11th hour. Doubt they'll last much longer though. I wouldn't put any money on them.
Pity 'cos I quite enjoy some of their newspapers - National Post etc...

Pssst- I think he's talking about the charter company based out of Alberta, not the giant media conglomerate.
Flying airplanes is easy, you just need to PAY ATTENTION. Finding a good job on the other hand takes experience, practice, and some serious talent.

Kudos v6g.

Being stupid around airplanes is a capital offence and nature is a hanging judge!

sounds to me like someone is disgruntled and talking trash...
Re: Whats up With CanWest
Many companies accross Canada have had layoff's, salery freezes/roll backs over the last few months due to the economy. You don't have to go to far nowadays talking with people from different companies that everyones charter business and even many coprorate flight departments have slowed down over the past few months. I agree with Vector2ILS that you sound like a disgrunted ex employee who probably spends more time causing problems within a company rather than helping solve them. With your new AvCanada member status its rather obvious that its your attempt at a final parting shot at the company or someone within it.
Re: Whats up With CanWest
I know they laid off some senior captains, but they were guys that had firebombing gigs that they'd take off for all summer. Most everyone still has their jobs but only fly once or twice a week..

Nope not a disgruntled former employee I have never worked for CanWest, just heard the information throughout the industry and at one point I was looking at trying to get a job with them because they did have a good reputation. Just wondering if they are still a good company to apply to for the future.

I curently work for Canwest out of YXD. It is still a great company to work for. Unfortunatly they had to lay off some pilots due to economic downturn. But which company hasn't had to do this? Im sure there are very few. The people at Canwest are great to work with and the CP & owner look out for their employees. Just ask anyone who works here!
As for flying once or twice a week, both our medevac king airs have been flying non stop the last few days.. Averaging 2 flights a day. Slave Lake charter is always busy with fire patrolls over and above our usual work.
