CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
I am sending my son to Comox from Vancouver this July and the travel choice is CMA or Pacific Coastal.
My feeling, it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, but is there any reson I should pick one over the other? Price and schedules are the same for the trip.
Thanks in advance.

Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
Well they depart different terminals if that makes a difference.
Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
YQQ-YVR they will actually depart the same terminal in YQQ and arrive at different terminals at YVR. Personally I prefer Pasco I have flown on both companies and while they are "half dozen of one, 6 of the other." I do prefer Pasco. Plus if your son can get on the Saab or Shorts they will have an f/a on board and serve a cookie or so.scm wrote:Well they depart different terminals if that makes a difference.

If you are going for safety- CMA.
PASCO has had how many crashes lately?

Pacific Coastal, for the reasons already mentioned. If it's a 1900 or the King Air, it will be the same level of in-flight service, if it's a Saab or a Shorts, you've got the lav as well as juice boxes and cookies!
Probably biggest of all, if I didn't check a bag, I have been off the plane and outside the South terminal within 30 seconds. You cannot say that about the main terminals!
And I fully disagree with tincan, Pasco is as safe as safe can be.

Altiplano,

Support the company that pays better, F/A's are nice too.

Yeah, pick Pasco. CMA will likely have a full load. Should be plenty of empty seats on Pasco though so it won't be so crowded.
Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
I wonder how many people who replied to this thread are employees or have friends who are employees at PASCO ?
From what I know, CMA is a great company.

Captains use to get paid 60-70K at CMA.loopa wrote:I wonder how many people who replied to this thread are employees or have friends who are employees at PASCO ?

Several years back they changed that to 40K.
I have heard recently (heresay, but from someone in the know) that it is now around 38K for captain to start.
Not to mention the FO salary of 19.5K
Yep, sounds like a GREAT company for sure.
But, I digress....to answer the o.p., I would go Pasco for the aforementioned reasons, and speed of getting out of the terminal in YVR.
For the record, I don't know anyone working at either anymore. And the poster that mentioned the poor safety record obviously doesn't understand the company and the situation. I would choose Pasco in a hearbeat.

Well if it's coming down to choosing the company that pays their pilot's more then you've come to the right place to get advice... av canada.
So when ever one should decide which company to fly when it comes to Air Canada or Air Transat, then that should be an easy choice too right?
I personally enjoy PASCO much more than CMA but that's not to say that I've had some nice flights with CMA too. They guys up front were very nice.

Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
Really for a 20 minute flight both companies are good. With price being similar and no "loyalty" to either I would simply decide on which company has the schedule that works for me and if I prefer to arrive at the main terminal or the south terminal.
Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
You are right, 6 one half a dozen the other, but then again....
Pasco has an established history of flying B.C.'s coast AND superior aircraft for the route. I would fly an SD360/SF340 any day over the B1900D.

CMA's 1900's are D models = lav on board. Pasco's CMA's are C models = no stand up cabinL1011 wrote:Pacific Coastal, for the reasons already mentioned. Haven't flown either carrier but honestly, for a quick hop between YQQ and YVR (or vice versa) I don't think I'd sweat making that decision.
Re: CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
They're both twin turbines with crews flying IFR everyday, I don't think either's a safety hazard.. I'd sooner hop in and go with the first one I saw than start a thread discussing the safety concerns with each, jebus.
