Is jumpseat a free travel seat on any airline for pilots and families?
I'v heard about it, but never really figured it out!

I can see you're REALLY enthousiastic about the whole flying thing, but can you please not write "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" or "??????????????????????????" or "**********************" in front and after every thread you create? It really looks immature and childish.

For you answer, a jumpseat is a seat in the cockpit not occupied by the crew. An empty cockpit seat basically. It's sometimes used to fly off-duty pilots, at the Captain's discretion.

Also, if you just searched for the answer yourself, you would have saved time, and would probably have learned a few interesting things in the process. I suggest, next time you have a question, you take a few minutes before hand to research it.

Additionally, a pilot can travel with another airline that his/her airline has an agreement with known as a reciprocal jumpseat agreement. So if there is a seat available in the back, and not limited to the number of actual jumpseats available in the flightdeck, the requesting pilot gets a ride. As it stands now, Transport Canada doesn't allow pilots from one company to ride up front with another company. Exceptions are Air Canada and Jazz. Also flight attandants can ride the jumpseat of their own companies as per their individual operating rules. These rides are mostly free but a few companies like WestJet charge a nominal fee.
