Good places to plane spot at YYC?
Have to kill 8 hrs at YYC, any good places to spot from?
Re: Good places to plane spot at YYC?
There's a parking lot at the southwest corner of Runway 34, accessible from McKnight Blvd, you can access it from either west or east bound McKnight. If you're in the main terminal, it is a little bit of a ways to go. However, there is a cycle/jogging path that runs from the terminal down the East side of the airfield to the old south terminal areas. You'll find it at the first traffic lights outside of the terminal.

Can recommend a visit to the air museum
Getting there, from the terminal, you''ll pass an area which has a selection of stored airliners (e.g. Air Literal) and CL66B N4AX.
Enjoy!

They just put a little area near the button of 28 off McCall Rd. It would be good if 28/10 is active.

That little area has been there for a long time.Go Guns wrote:They just put a little area near the button of 28 off McCall Rd. It would be good if 28/10 is active.
You could also sit in the Westjet parking lot by they're hanger, its right beside 28 and the taxi way.

Sorry forgot my point...If its open, the little restaurant just south of the viking hanger (old spar) in the flight school which name happens to elude me. But you can go up into their old little tower and watch stuff come in on 34. Big windows, enjoy a beer whilst you wait. Go to the museum first and ask if the restaurant is open, they'll probably know. At the museum you should ask if you can see their Mosquito and Hurricane...

Is it still open? I thought that closed down a long time ago, and the school moved to High River years ago, it was Calgary Flight Training.bombardierfixer wrote:Sorry forgot my point...If its open, the little restaurant just south of the viking hanger (old spar) in the flight school which name happens to elude me. Lurch
Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
You cannot take the sky from me

If they're using 16 in the morning the top of the parking garage (NW corner) is also a good spot if you don't have any way to get around.
If you have wheels (or don't mind paying for a taxi) the area between Customs and the Landmark (Shell) Aerocentre FBO is a great spot for watching arrivals on 34, has a picnic table and is within a reasonable walk of the Tim Horton's / Wendy's. There is also a good restaurant inside Landmark.
Here is a great spotting guide for YYC:

Post when you're going to be around, there are usually some local spotters around who would be more than happy to show you around.
