yep. it's true at another Airline i know as well. seniority has a lot to do with it and i know that FAs have alot of potential responsibilty (evacs etc..) and deal with a lot of shit (and puke) but it is about 4-6 weeks paid training vs , well, you know what pilot training costs. I don't think the FAs are over paid, we all know that pilots are under paid.
cheers, fly safe.

Here at Gulfair in Bahrain, cabin crew make 25% of an FO salary, which is the equivalent of a Jetsgo FO after tax. But they have accomodation and transport to work included. Once they get pregnant, their contract is automatically voided and must return home after 1 month.
That means only young, happy to work 25 year old cabin crew onboard. No grannies making more than me in my aircraft.
Thats the way it is here.

think what you will, but if the FAs don't go, the plane doesn't go. There's a reason for that: regulations aside, because passengers generally check their brain in with their luggage and need help doing simple things like opening the bathroom door, sitting down on the take off roll, not leaving their child on the floor for landing, not setting the plane on fire because they "really need a smoke" and the list of stupid things i have seen goes on way too long. Thanks to safety implementations, good maintenance, and well trained pilots, the chance that FAs evacuate X number of passengers due to an emergency are slim, but i have seen it happen first hand - twice. ...I think the issue here is not to demean the profession others have chosen to pursue, but to increase our worth as pilots. no, i don't think the pay will or ever should be equal...just reasonale for the traning and time put into the job.
However, dealing with people who call them cookie tossers and think that all they do is push a cart up and down the aisle can't be easy
(although i know the training isn't equal in all airlines - a certain airline's FA was quoted on another forum as saying "what's that?" when shown a life jacket that had fallen out of it's pouch
- the happy face is green for a reason)

I have the utmost respect for anyone who can put up with the shit they day and still keep a smile on their face. But at the same time, there is no way any flight attendent should make as much as the FO on that plane.
I don't think they should be paid less, we just need to be paid what were worth.
Cheers.

for me it's always been a responsibility issue. and there is no one who has more responsibility than the pilots, and the pay should reflect that. end of story. another thing, when did being an f/a become a career? would a waitress on a cruise ship be getting paid what the captain does? i think not. there is no difference. f/a's are wonderful and i wouldn't be able to be stuck in the cabin with crying baby's and smelly feet. having said that if i was, i'd realize that the 2 pilots at the front of the plane are serving a far greater perpose than i. without pilots there would be no need for f/a's, not the other way around.
take care.

This is one of those issues. Lets just say the F/A is an important part of the team. When it comes to emerg the F/As do have to do a job BUT..... that is after the guy up front uses all his training and skill so the F/A has a chance to use their skills to evac. Pay should never be equal. To two highest paid people in the company's should be the pilots and the tec's because they both had to go through H**L to get where they are. To the F/A's who think they deserve the same money as the F/O here is a challange. Go up NOrth work the ramp for 1 year for min wage ( if your lucky) and mabye you will get a chance to fly on the plane. Fly on that airplane with some pretty bad duty hours and if your complain you will be fired. They mabye if your lucky and know someone after 3 years you might get into JAZZ then another 4 years you may get a chance at the major. Oh ya did I forget that before any of that you have to spend 40,000 and 2-3 years in training. So in closing I do think we need F/A's but ............. The pilot can always go back and do the F/A's job but the F/A could never go up and do the pilot's job ( That will only happen in Hollywood)

i think everyone hit the nail on the head. There is nothing wrong with earning 30G a year for being an FA (and it is a career for most FAs in North America, to each their own) We all agree that it's the front end pay that needs adjusting!!!
the only thing that should be in common between FAs and Pilots? the love of flying - every FA i have spoken with loves their job because of the travelling and actually loves flying, just in a different way than we do...
2 of them had their private but said they couldn't afford anymore..no kidding!!!

Not sure what the pay scale is like now, but back when I was there, an f/a with a few years seniority was making more than the pilots' entry-level salary. Pursers were making considerably more. Having said that, after the pilots finished their 2-year stint at the entry-level salary, they skyrocketed above what f/a's were making. I wouldn't imagine too much has changed since then, but who knows...
Swerved.
Swerved.
In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?

A few years ago (pre 9-11) on an overnight the FA and I (Jazz) compared T-4s and we made within a K of each other. Mainline FAs can make more than a Jazz FO or a mainline RJ FO.

those cookie tossers can be paid the same as pilots, only if they can pass the flight test on the A319. Until then Shut the Hell up
What exactly do they do. Push a cart up and down an aisle
my 2 cents
...I knew there were reasons why I don't associate myself with a lot of pilots...just when I was having a little faith that not all pilots are Neanderthals...along you two come and open your mouths...
Congratulations...you're right on time.

Yep! It is bad in Canada, but then again...
Last month I took a seven hour flight to Bangkok with an unnamed airline, and while sitting in J class, the person sitting next to me observed that there were three crew members sitting in first. I replied that they were the return crew because they were in uniform. Being a poor country and poor airline, they could not afford lay-over crews sitting in a Bangkok hotel (Sofitel). I then tried to find the spare F/As but could not. So when I left the plane I asked our F/A if they were replaced. She said not. We clean the cabin and head back.
Knowing the salaries paid in their country, they have all my respect, and when I returned two weeks later I saw some pretty tired faces crewing the A321 for the eight-hour return flight. They were still smiling...

I guess some people can live with all kind of injustices as long as they get the dollars ......
No need for me to go into all the other injustices inflected on poor helpless expatriates in that country..........because buddy, you have seen nothing yet
no grannies serving on my A/C ? what F#@!ing A/C do you have ?
I think I need to take a break from this subject........... [/b]

and by the way......F/A getting 25 % of F/O ? oh! oh! I rather give the F/A a little more money in that airline.....I would have more chances surviving a crash in their hands instead of the bunch of idiots flying for them....like the ones who drove into the water a full serviceable A320 back in 2000.
Don't forget that the FA's are the ones representing the company for 90% of the time.
Here are a few things that you the paying custumer use to rate the quality of the flight:
. Weather
. How well you are served by the FA's
. does the food taste good
. does the FA have a nice ass
. turbulence, or the lack of
. does the FA have a nice rack
. annoying crying kids
. the FA bending over to pick something up
. The landing
Give them a little more credit, they put up with shit so you don't have to.

Football:
Guards and Tackles do not make as much as Quarterbacks.
To be sure, they are legally required to be on the line or else you are called for illegal proceedure.
Without them no play can come off. Hopefully they are good at what they do, or your life as a Quarterback will be miserable.
They don't however, have to learn nor train as much as the Quarterbacks to excell at their CHOSEN position. They can come in off the street and be taught how to cross block, pass block and pull. If they show skill with these tasks they may earn a place on the team.
They will never LEAD a team to victory. Theirs is a supporting role, vital but just supporting.
The Quarterback alone is blamed for a losing game. He alone burdens the responsability for the team and with that comes with the bigger paycheck.
There are some very good Professional Guards and Tackles, but they make less than the quarterbacks.
If the Guards and Tackles wanted to be quarterbacks and make more money, then they should have trained to be Quarterbacks from early on and tried out for the position like all the other Quarterbacks did..
Everyone had the same chance to try out..
F/A's demanding pay equal to pilots??? Go learn how to throw the ball first.

F/A's get no respect
Gentlemmen (I use the term loosely for some of you) a little more class is needed here.
F/A s as has been noted here deal with a lot more crap than those of us up front ever will, not only from the pax but also from management. They get it from both sides, at least we only get it from management. (most of the time).
Next time some of you are dead heading offer to help them in their labour, take a walk in their moccassins. (I know they'll probably have to say no but at least offer).
So far as the pay thing goes obviously seniority counts for something and a senior f/a will make more than an entry f/o but you'll catch up soon.
So far as your unitial salary and the realities of our industry go thats the way it is...for now...at some point (hopefully soon) we all will band together and say enough is enough and things will get better.
Til then do what you must to get that first job to build hrs. so you can get that airline job and start making the bucks.
Oh! and don't forget that f/a you were rubishing just now? they work for that airline and can also walk your cv in which may get you that interview and that job so be nice...just my 2 cents.

Sherlock, you brought a tear to my eye. I am so glad to hear the whole Band together line, seriously. A certain little airline that could and still can had hired a bunch of scab FAs when they were going through contract negatiations... before the negotiations had even begun, talk about negotiating in bad faith. The pilots for said company stood right along side the FAs in confronting management and the SCABs. it was a beautiful sight of what i call CRM a la extraordinaire!!! Now when those pilots went for their negotiations, who do you think stood by them? The same crew of professional men and women that had their support not so long ago.
So i am glad you, Bird dog, Vickers and many more, thankfully, realize the importance of ALL team players at an airline. FAs, dispatchers, crew schedulers and pilots and these days, sky marshalls are a team. No one can compare one job to the other, because they are different jobs...and everyone deserves respect...now, i need a CRM hug.
Hey, if they make auto-pilot, why not auto-FA or auto-rampie.hmm...
.80, your clown scares me.
