Traveling to the Maldives?

Post by InTheGame »

Thought I would get some very educated responses seeing as there are probably many pilots on this forum who have been there. If I want to go to Kuredu in the Maldives what would be the most inexpensive and direct flights available from Vancouver? Which cities in neighboring countries service the island of Male?

Thanks for your responses, pm's are fine :)

Why would you choose Keredu?? I found that to be one of the shittier resorts.. Half assed food, ants everywhere in the room, 45 min walks to the room from the resturant. Overall I found it very boring there on overnights unless we had 2 sets of crews there to party it up with. I would choose Club Med Kani if you want to visit. First off... It's all inclusive.. Drinks and food till you drop. Plus way more fun with daily activities and music playing.. Most of the resorts in dives you could hear a pin drop, but Kani lights it up!

Oh and Emmirets would probably be your best be to get down there... Via Dubai, or singapore... If they even go to Singapore..

Oh oh and one last thing.. Don't forget your bananna hammock speedo... Then you can fit right in with the rest of the dudes on the beach... 8)

Most people leaving Vancouver for the Maldives travel west thru Singapore via Singapore Airlines. You have an overnight in Singapore which is included in your ticket and then a nice 4.5 hour flight to Male' the next day. You will arrive refreshed rather than unslept, unkept wondering where you have just came from.

Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Qatari Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines are the main scheduled carriers into Male'. There are quite a few others but they are usually charters for some tour company.

Hope this helps!

Singapore does not fly direct to Vancouver anymore. It might be worthwhile to check AC/West Jet to YYZ, Then either Emirates to Dubai/Male or AC to Heathrow/Male. From BC it's San Fran, then Sing, etc. Kuredu has won more awards than any other resort in it's price range. Golf course is goofy but driving range is nice. And you can get all inclusive package deals as well. :drinkers: :drinkers:

SriLankan Airlines flies to the Maldives non stop from Tokyo (Narita) and London Heathrow several times per week.

You can also travel via Colombo from Paris/Frankfurt/Rome/Hong Kong/Singapore.

Singapore was the easiest out of YVR. But when I took Emirates home it was the cheapest through YYZ. YYZ-Dubai-MLE round trip cost me $1800!

KUREDU is amazing! I was base pilot there for a few months! If you want a place with people to hang out with and meet and a great atmosphere....thats your place! Franco's resturant is the best....try the Kuredu special breakfast! You won't regret it! If you've got a bit of money to spend....try and get the beach villa closer to room 101 is best! The higher the number the longer the walk....but far worth it! I can't say enough good things about Kuredu! ALso check out the dive shop....my buddy Paul works there! Good stuff! Enjoy and PM if you want some more information!

MAT is the only company flying to Kuredu right now and they will include your flight on MAT into your hoilday stay at Kuredu. About at 45min flight north of MLE.
