Old Crash Site found....looking for info

Heya everyone,
This weekend I was hiking through the bush in central BC when I stumbled upon an old crash site. This is about halfway between 100 Mile House and Williams Lake area, just NE of Lac La Hache.
I asked some locals about this, but didn't get much information. One oldtimer thought he remembered about a crash in the 1970's where 3 or 4 people were killed but he wasn't sure. I was surprised that some long time residents and ranchers from the area didn't seem to know anything of it. I searched for any numbers, markings, or data plates but couldn't see anything that would help me identify it. It obviously hit fairly hard as most of it is embedded in the bank, and there were large portions of melted parts indicating fire.
At first I thought it might be a Republic SeaBee, but I'm not sure. I haven't been able to find anything on the web about this crash...so I thought maybe someone here could steer me in the right direction. Any ideas?

Interesting... Nothing about this one on the Republic Seabee Accident Page, but it may not be a complete listing.

I have confirmation that this is indeed a SeaBee. I emailed some additional pics to a SeaBee owners association/club and they were able to confirm my thoughts that this is the wreckage of a Republic SeaBee.
I now have info on where to look for a serial number(s) that will be stamped in some of the wreckage that is still intact, and I plan to return to the crash site in the next week or so to obtain these if I can. Hopefully this will help identify this particular aircraft/accident.

Let us know if you find additional details... I did manage to locate one reference to a Seabee accident that may have occurred in BC:

The new owners brought in two local men who had been successfully running the Causeway Taxi, Leon Hugh Rawlings and Cecil Rhodes. These men were killed not long after in a fishing accident. They had a SeaBee plane which they had taken to a remote lake to go fishing. When they tried to take off the plane had insufficient height to clear the trees and crashed.

Beat me to it Ogee - I would have said the exact same thing. Gideon is a legend in those parts.
