Hire a Pilot who Buys a PPC?
Well, we just did. Yup, that's right folks. This pilot is buying a PPC from us, and we are employing this person for the summer. So, every hour this pilot spends in flight, one of our guys spends on the ground! And some guys have been here fifteen years! Our complaints are met with remarks to the effect of "What have you done for the company lately?" Afterall, anybody willing to "upfront" fifteen thousand dollars for a PPC just has to be worth more than some poor sot flying to feed his family! And we have to fly with her? How do you respect a person who does this? And how do you remain loyal to a company who'd do this? Time to spruce up the old resumes?.....after I throw up, that is!

The next step Doc, is to devise a rediculous Avcanada user name and take out your agressions on this board. I have a support group that meets every Wednesday night to discuss the problem that you're facing called "Legitimate faces of an illigitimate industry". There's always free sugar cookies and tang.
Truly, you have my deepest condolences. I am just as unamused as you are.

Let me get this straight, someone actually walked in to your company and offered to buy a job? This wasn't an advertised position, but an actual sales pitch? If that is the case, that’s a first for me.
I’ve heard of pilots willing to pay for a bond upfront (Jetsgo, Voyageur, Air Baffin), but not offer to pay...Your Company is as much to blame, but I guess it actually makes good business sense from their standpoint.
Not to jump to conclusions, but if that is the case, thanks to whomever for setting a new standard and forever fu@king those that follow you.
Total BS.

Don't even get me started on this one.....do you blame the company, or the idiot that doesn't know what they're worth and resorts to a form of legal prostitution in order to get the job.
If pilots stood together and said "Hey, we aren't going to pay for training and work for sh*t wages" the world would be a better place. How does a pilot who spends time & money in college (or a private flight school) stoop so low as to further degrade themselves by doing so.
It used to be that only the crappy operators, the ones with the revolving doors and lousy pay/working conditions, would require this of potential crew members and there were those who jumped at the chance to up-grade, so many so that it has become the norm. Those that started this practice (It was happening in the late 80's in Ont) of prostitution are
probably the same ones that think it's okay to fork out 30K to fly something big.
Where's the 2x4 when you need it.....a nice knee cap shot would tune 'em up.
I'll stick to my prostitution free world and remember a time when a former OP's manager handed back a resume to a young guy who was willing to work for nothing and pay for a PPC and said "If you don't know what you're worth, then we don't want to hire you..."
As long as there are those willing to bend over, there will be companies willing to drive it home..........pay for nothing!

Here here Winston.... I second that!!!!
If I knew someone bought their way into the company I worked for, I'd make it so rough for em, they'd pay again to quit.
This is not how to get ahead, and please don't confuse this with a bond, because this is a totally different category...
Please people; lets try to keep the word "professional" attached to our profession.
Cheers.

It wouldn't be wise to quit before finding another job, but I would definately start looking.
Why can't owners realize that the better they treat their pilots, the longer they stick around, and the more economically they fly, thus the more the company profits. It seems so simple.

185...nice avatar!
It has nothing to do with gender. It will make it a little harder to deal with being that it is a female, I think. We are an all male group (through no fault of my own, I hasten to point out) and most male groups have a harder time letting a woman know how we feel than another guy. Why is this? That we feel less hostile towards a woman? We shouldn't. Male or female, buying a job is for bottom-feeders! It's more the company that's at fault here....it's a low blow to the rest of us. And it will be hard to deal with. Makes me kind of wonder if a guy would have been hired under the same conditions....or would the CP have had the cajones to tell a GUY to "piss off!"? Must wonder which "head" is the PIC?

Let me get this straight Doc, your company is selling a PPC to someone and that person will be employed as a pilot when she finishes the PPC training?
Is it a one pilot operation and you are training on empty flights?

Oh for crying out loud, not this pay for your PPC thing again. I think most people on this forum already know my views on this, so I won't even get into it. I'd rather take that money, and buy a new car, or maybe put something down on some real estate and generate rental income. When will people ever learn, that money can't buy experience!

Oh boy am I gonna get it for this one. But why woudn't a company, especially a small potatoes company hire someone who pays for his/her own PPC. You'd have to be a business school drop out not to. Let me get this straight, you imbeciles think said company should have turned this individual down and forked out $15000 of their own bucks? Go back to fantasy land jackasses. That to me is a company that appreciates the value of a buck.
I think this string is bashing the wrong person This is someone who has the means to make their money provide for them. What you guys are ignoring is that this person will still have to pass a ride before they can work. If they can't than it's $15000 poorly spent.
Ya, ya some poor ground guy got screwed. Woopy, aviation is a shit industry anyhow. Ever try explaining to Revenue Canada how you get paid. They look at you like "huh? base plus mileage. What?"
I have to ask, who are you pissed at? The pilot? The company? The indusrty? Or pilots as a whole? Because if you look at it we're our own worst enemy. If this misguided website has done anything, it is to prove that. Look at the other topics, one day it's "@#$! this Company", then the next is "How do I get a Job with them?"
Most of us have been doing this for so long (you especially Doc you old coot) thta we forget about the first year. When we couldn't get a flying job to save our lives. Questioned our career choice. Wished we had $15000 to make it happen. Leave this person alone. Let them make it happen the only way they can. And for gods sake get a life outside of this forum. Some of you may even get yourselves laid.
Waboose out.
