British Airways has a service flying an A318 from JFK to Heathrow.
All business class, with 34 seats on board if I'm not mistaken.
Not only that but they use the old Concorde callsigns (BAW1/2)

Maybe Porter will! YTZ-YUL-YHZ-KEF-DUB-LCY or something similar. It could prove to be popular

Yes sorry you're correct, I noticed this as well forgot when I posted... a fairly unique service for the trans-atlantic crowd.macbainz1 wrote:No not to Heathrow to London City airport like right in the middle of the financial district
Isn't a A320 pretty much the biggest airplane (737 also?) that can land at the EGLC?

yeah I think your correct, the biggest aircraft they can handle is the A318 and they had to do a load of testing before the approval.
according to wikipedia:
<<Mid-range airliners seen at London City include the ATR 42 (both -300 and -500 variants), ATR72, Airbus A318, DHC Dash 8, BAe 146, Dornier 328, Embraer ERJ 135, Embraer 170,[8] and Fokker 50. Successful compatibility testing for the A318 was undertaken in 2006. On January 30, 2009, trials were completed successfully with the ATR72-500, leading to its approval for use at the airport.[9] The Embraer 190SR underwent trials from the 28th of March, 2009, and thereafter gained approval>>
it's a pretty sweet airport and an amazing view of london on the easterly approach...

Re: Hey Air Canada Airbus pilots... are you next?
What does this compatibility testing consist of? Does it have to do with the runway surface and support?
If it was just a matter of the 4400' runway length, I'd imagine they could test that somewhere else.

Noise profiles and other 'good neighbour' characteristics?AMM wrote:What does this compatibility testing consist of? Does it have to do with the runway surface and support?

Runway length and a 5 degree glide slope.AMM wrote:What does this compatibility testing consist of? Does it have to do with the runway surface and support?
