YWG area

Post by ywgflyboy »

Anyone know if any other YWG/area outfits have ground-to-crew type hiring scheme? I know 95% of Perimeter f/o's come from the ramp just wondering if there are any other companies in the area who provide that opportunity.

Keewatin Air does this also, and I believe this is the way Fast Air operates as well.

Apply to all those companies, but research them before you accept an offer. Search avcanada.

How long is the average time that one can expect to work on the ramp at Perimeter? I might have a job lined up at another place in the YWG area that would lead to about a year on the ground, but I'm wondering if Perimeter would be a better choice, even if you're stuck on the ground longer.

When I checked in at perimeter they would not even give an estimate based on the little-nil movement within the company. My best answer (from a pilot/friend) was around a year.

Unfortunately the forklift drivers out there are making about $5-10k more a year than an entry level first officer with any of these companies mentioned above.

Not unless you have 500 hours

1-2+ years

right now with little movement, you can expect a LONG wait (3 years or more) but that could change soon, who knows.

Have an interview at SkyNorth this week for full time dispatch. Anyone here with any prior experience with them/know all the aspects of the job?

Perimeter does have a lot going for it, even if the wait time on the ground is longer. The fact that it is one of the largest airlines in this area means when things start moving again, there is a LOT of movement which is good for everyone. The pay is also quite good especially when you get on to medevac operations. I would say the average upgrade time to left seat is about 1.5 years, and to the right seat is probably about 1 year.

Believe me when I say though, things can change really fast, for better or for worse. When I started on the ramp, I was told 6 months to 1 year wait. 2.5 years later, I got my right seat chance!

To - arictaylor

They are a king air medevac outfit owned by 2 Air Canada pilots.

My understanding is good pilot schedules and staff, but don't know anything how they run their dispatch.

Good luck
