CGAA
Anyone care to share the payscales/training bond arrangements for CGAA?
Heard the working conditions weren't the best, but might be able to stomach it for a year for some jet time...

No amount of money is worth breaking duty days, flying clapped out Lears for $ 50 grand out of TO, and bringing a "to do" list of snags on a napkin back to base every trip. Just ask any of the 6 or 7 captains who've jumped ship in the last 6 months how this company operates.

stevewilson, read the post above yours. 6 captains have quit in the last "4 months actually" cause they won't and will not put up with it.stevewilson wrote:So why do guys put up with it?
Surely it's not the whole "snag it and you're fired" routine at this point.
Do they bond you for training?
There was a really good thread on here in December about CGAA, when the sight was down from hackers. The conclusion I came to was "stay far, far away" The jet time is just not worth the misery.

they're currently going through some restructuring though. New management I believe, a couple of new lears for the west coast, and some changes to the pay scale (positive changes). Of course you'll get better info from current employees, but I got this info from my buddy who flies right seat for them right now.

Unless they've changed the Ops Manager and CP, nothing has changed, or will. If that's the case, honest to god I am trying to be a friend to strangers when I say run as far away, as fast as you can from this company. It doesn't matter what they operate or what they pay, they could offer a million dollars to skipper a 744 and it still wouldn't be worth it for the way they treat people.
Good luck.
Good luck.

This industry amazes me!!
After all the SH!T which has been posted about this particular company over the last couple of months, people still want to work there!?!?!? Trust me, the crap you have to wade through to fly a Lear 35 around the world is not worth it. Most of what has been posted is in fact true ... this is not a company friends would let friends work for.
In one year, there has been a mass exodus of Capt's. (Actually, all but the four YWG guys have left.) Why? Because the Capt's have been around long enough to realize a really bad situation getting worse. F/O's figure if they can just endure long enough, they'll get a left seat on a Lear 35 and travel the world on CGAA's dime. Seems like a great plan, but ...
In that time spent at CGAA you could be asked to ...
(1) Circumvent the CARS in multiple and not so creative ways.
(2) Fly airplanes which are broken, but should be okay for the trip!
(3) Believe that a 704 operator can work a 17+hr duty day.
(4) Learn to love the taste of the "horse sh!t" you're going to be fed.
(5) Trust the slime-balls who run this company .
(6) Never be home. Even on your days off!
Most of the Capt's who left, first tried to improve the situation. These guys took issues to management in an attempt to make this an enjoyable and safe place to work. However, time after time they were shut down by cowboy(s) who run this outfit.
There is a new investor, but it is still business as usual!
If this sounds like your kinda job, get your resumes in order, cause they need to hire 10 -11 guys/gals.
Good Luck.

Is it really that bad there. I know some people who have interviews there. They are now seriously re-considering. Is it just the time away from home because that happens at most companys and I hear the pay isn't that great but that happens as well. I just can't believe its that bad.

I couldn't dislike someone enough, to recommend they go work there. If your friends interviewing have a lapse of reason and get visions of Learjets dancing in their heads and take the job...I NEVER want to hear them complaining they didn't know what they were getting into!
My sincere condolences to those still slogging away there...a life is a terrible thing to waste...

Sounds brutal; I'll give them a miss. Have they ever fired someone for taking a stand, or has anyone gone for a coffee at TC to discuss certain issues? They're in the same hangar at CYWG!
Hard to believe they can get away with it for so long without someone speaking up LOUD enough for the right people to hear.

Yes, a couple have been fired and a few threatened. Special trips made, just to intimidate, threaten and bully. Last guy they tired it with though gave them a little of their own medicine. Put them in shock for a few months. Let’s just say there was a little bit of back peddling trying to keep the rest of the troops from going awl. Didn't work though, as 3 captains left shortly afterwards.stevewilson wrote:Sounds brutal; I'll give them a miss. Have they ever fired someone for taking a stand
Things will never change, as the COO and President is part owner and micro manages the business from top to bottom. Once he is out of the picture, you might see a different operation. Until then though, it will be the same old circus. Around and around we go.
From what I heard even the Chief Pilot has thrown in the towel. One less pair of shit kickers (and mullet) around the office now. It doesn't matter anyway as the company is micro managed from the top. He was just one of his peons. They will just find another to fill the rawhide.
Cheers

Every time CGAA comes up nobody mentions Skyservice Lifeguard, I've heard that they work just as many hours for similar crappy pay in really old machines and with the added bonus of no chance of working for one of the only decent airlines left in Canada ( Skyservice Airlines ).
Just wondering why they don't seem to get the same treatment on here as CGAA.
Just my two cents

cgaa/skyservice
there is no way to compare the two companies. skyservice is a professional company, who cares about its employees. we get a schedule on the 20th of every month, minimum of 8-10 days off at home base per month, incredibly well maintained airplanes and great pay structure. just had a pilot leave lifeguard march 1st for the airline. skyservice also has one of the largest corporate flight departments in canada and they is movement there as well from lifeguard. ask a couple of the former cgaa guys what they think of skyservice....NO COMPARISON!!! top notch company!!!!
CGAA / Skyservice
I would hardly call $51700 great pay for an international jet captain.
Especially when Georgian guys are getting that driving a 1900 back and forth to Sarnia with Air Canada benefits.
