spread the disdain

Post by GilletteNorth »

One thing I've noticed while reading through the forums is that when posters mock religion as fairy tales or fantasy, they almost always choose to refer to the Catholic/Protestant belief in Jesus. They mock the bible and instruct readers that they should choose not to believe in fairy tales anymore. What I'm wondering is if Christianity is a fairy tale, why aren't Islam and Judaism and Zoroastrians and Buddism and Shinto and Sikhism and Scientology and every other type of religion in the world mentioned as well in an equal degree of derision?

Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?

Now to answer your question

It's easy, I bet most on here are white, whites hate for others to think they are racist, so they only attack the one religion that will keep themselves from being called racist.

The other reason is it's the only religion that they have any knowledge on.

I also notice you never hear of other religous leaders diddling little boys

Simple. Christians are an easy target and they rarely fight back. Criticize Judiasm and you could be labelled an anti-Semite. Criticize Islam and somewhere an ayatollah will issue a fatwa on you and your family, your flag will be boycotted and your cheese burned. Not to mention the Canadian Human Rights Commission will do a fandango all over your sorry ass. Have you ever seen PETA take on the Hells Angels because they wear leather? I thought not. :D

It is because Christianity is more mainstream in western society. When you live in a free society, people tend to rebel from the mainstream. I bet if we were predominately buddists, and have as much freedom that we do people would make fun of buddha equally as much as Jesus.

Fairy tails? What??? They are ALL true..... Really. The world is split into "states" governed by specific deities who decide on territories over beers and poker games in the sky. They're kinda like gangs, complete with the turf wars.

I just had a heated argument with an 80million year old dinosaur skeleton in the airport that the world is actually 5000yrs old and he's full of shit and has a fake I.D. I'm so going to heaven where God and my 432 wives are waiting for me with an endless supply of beer that won't make me fat.

My Wife and I did however find Jesus recently - he was hiding behind the sofa the whole time.... who knew???

On a serious note, I think the reason the Christians get it so bad on here is that we're living in an Christian country (ack) and were Avcanada based in another location - say Israel, we'd be mocking the Jewish faith just as hard. Location, location, location....

Lurch allured to the catholic predilection towards child molestation, very true. As well Mohomad's youngest wife was 7 years old. How about that cultural relativism. Organised religion is a mess.

f you want to start a thread debunking Scientology, count me in. We can throw homeopathy in there too for good measure.

Put it this way. How quickly would this thread get yanked if it was poking fun at any other religion other than Christianity?

That is spot on, and very nicely written too. I agree.

Let's not forget the moderation of the forum, they'll always let Christian bashing slide but the moment it turns to another religion, heaven help ya!

Most Buddists cannot name the twelve buddas, just like most christians cannot name the twelve disciples/apostles.

And Jesus is actually a historical figure, so is Muhammad. For that matter so was Joseph Smith. The faith vs fairytale argument is more a matter of the persons claims, was Jesus the Son of God, was Muhammad God's Prophet? Did Joseph Smith really get a good look at those golden plates from the angel? God, Allah and the Spaghetti monster are the ones who's existence can't be proved. (though there is some photographic evidence of the Spaghetti Monster...)

Anyhow, spent a bit of time studying religion in history for some easy credits back in the day.
