Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
Hi everyone,
I am thinking about using a reciprocal jump seat and bringing my infant son along with me. What do you all think, would you consider this abuse of the privilege? I would be using either AC or WJ.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
Never thought of that one. I have never read anything saying you can or can't. Have you tried contacting the person in charge of the recip jumpseat program? I would guess it would be up to the Captain but who know's? I was recently denied when there were 80 some open seats in the back.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
Yes this would be abuse of the system, I actually don't think you would be allowed to bring your son with you.
As a jumpseater you are supposed to be able to assist the crew when asked and you would not be able to when caring for an infant.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
I'm a frequent jumpseater and had set up our recip program with Jazz.....
"The program is available to licensed pilots on personal travel only"
That being said....I don't think it would be abuse persay....I just don't think they will allow it...but it doesn't hurt to call them and ask...all they can do is say no.

"all they can do is say no."
And they will. As for me personally, if someone showed up with a child requesting the j/s my answer would be, "Nyet Boris."
It is a privillage for pilots and not pilots and their family. Sheesh, there is always someone who, given an inch wants to take the whole effin yard.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
While some pilots use the recip privileges as an opportunity to travel on vacation for free, the program was incepted to provide for expense free travel for pilots from their domicile to their base for work.

I'm very curious, were given a reason for being denied?whipline wrote: I was recently denied when there were 80 some open seats in the back.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
I hope you at least called the carrier you were hoping to hop a ride with for clarification.
Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
Wow! Who is abusing the system? He or she jusk asked a question.. Take a pill.. JJdriver.
Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
I agree....no harm in asking the question here.
(Better than showing up at the airport and trying it there...although I do not think you would get very far.)
It is a "Reciprocal Pilot Jump Seat" agreement. Not "Pilot friends and family." Although I have seen it work in pre 9-11-01 days.
If your company offers a staff travel program on other carriers...that might be an option available to you.
The "Reciprocal Pilot Cabin Travel Program" has been created as we in Canada do not as yet have the ability to extend the professional courtesy of the Flight Deck Jump Seat to pilots of other carriers as they do in the USA.
As the name implies....it is a program for pilots.

Re: Reciprocal Jumpseat Question
A co-worker of mine travelled on Wesjet on that jumpseat agreement with his 2 year old baby. Since at Westjet you need a seat in cabin. He was allowed by Westjet to travel with his baby on that agreement. It can be called abuse yes, but because transport Canada isn't facilitating the development of "Crewpass", that would allow pilots from other companies part of that agreement physically in the cockpit, that kind of behavior will happen again.
