interview questions

not sure if this is considered a "hot tip" but here i go...
recent interview i had i was asked the following questions:
where do you see yourself in 2, 5, and 10 years?
why do you want to work for this company?
what do you know about this company? (odd as they are 2 years old and very small)
what is an adversity you have been faced with and overcome?
who do you admire most or who influenced you the most?


that was it. no airplane questions, no CRM or IFR or operational questions.

i have no idea how the interview went, because i don't know what answers they were looking for...anyway, i wasn't prepared for those questions, hopefully by reading this, someone else will be.
oh yeah, and always have 1 or 2 questions ready for the operator...they always ask "do you have any questions"

What was their fleet like? I only ask because if the fleet is pretty straightforward, they may be more interested in your ability to be a human being than your ability to be a pilot.

since when do pilots need to be socially adept? no,really...i am a lovely human :lol:
....'tis true their fleet is pretty uniform...i was just surprised i didn't get any operational queries. oh well... something to ponder for the next go round.

I think it is a great idea to put the questions of your interview.

I think it will be very helpfull if every body who undergo an interview would post some questions he/she had to answer...

That is a good one, i've heard a variation of that one before: "you meet up with your captain for a drink after the flight and they show up wearing a dress...what do you do?"
...even i got caught off guard, shamed to say... :oops:

I've had similar questions that Waterwings had and was curious to what kind of answers companies are looking for. It seems that charter companies and small regionals ask these kind of questions and it seems like they have a predetermined idea of the type of person they're looking for. I'm sure most of us are good people so why the HR style interview, is it because they figure other jobs do it, it's the cool thing to do :lol:
I'm sure we all know how to smile and greet passengers but what are they actually looking for with these type of questions?

What is the best approach for questions of this nature because I'm sure we all know that to get a job you have to tell them what they want to hear :) but I'm in the dark on this on...
Also what are some good questions to ask an operator when asked, "Do you have any questions for us?"
I try to find out everything I can about a company before hand so I wouldn't have any questions for them but it looks like that isn't the best approach or may send the wrong message... Any insight would be great.

Lots of companies, esp. the smaller ones, want you to be a "nice human being" as well as a pilot, not just for being all nice to the pax. Heck, lots of these don't even carry pax. I suppose it is the right amount of confidence without being arrogant, and the ability to listen and learn mixed in with having basic manners, and a whole lot of other stuff. Why do you think lots of companies rely strongly in inside references? They want to know you're not an ass!!! They want you to work well in a multi-crew environment, and they don't want people beating on each other when stuck in a camp somewhere up north...

As far as questions to ask the company in an interview? How about schedule/rotations, options for advancement to other types in the future, the company's plans or something intelligent that shows that you know about that specific company and are interested in that specific company... How about "I heard that you just bought a new airplane - --insert question here ---." (A good idea is not to ask "so what exactly do you guys do here?" unless you want the CP to have a good story to tell at lunch.)

Anyhow. That's my few cents. Back to trying not to beat on the other pilot up here in this camp. :)

Some questions a buddy of mine at AC got asked...

1.) Your captain (or FO) shows up for the flight - smelling like he's been drinking. What do you do if you confront him and he denies it - and you are sure he has been?


2.) When is it OK to deviate from SOPs? Is it OK?


3.) What is the job of a captain? What about an FO?


4.) What is the job of flight attendants?


5.) Why should WE hire YOU?
