Wednesday Drop Ins
Does WestJet still have their Wednesday drop ins for pilots? If so would there be any use in coming by the first week of January or would everyone be on holidays?

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
Hi Gob,
Someone is generally around, however we ask now that if you are coming, please come in with a current employee or internal recommend (sponsor).
That way they can tour you around, and take time to introduce you to key people like training personnel or crew planners. The whole purpose of your visit is to simply perform some due diligence on the company and making sure you want to be here for the right reasons. Honestly, I think it really helps your interview as well.
Hiring numbers just went up as well.
Dave.

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
Any chance of an interview without internal recommends?
Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
We do hire without an internal recommend, however we do prefer having someone support you that has flown with you. It's kind of like our a sim eval.
I can't comment specifically on numbers but it is encouraging. I'll be busy all year.

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
dave, what does mean the 1500hrs requirements published on westjet's hiring page, is this for military ?
that's surprising because we all know a pilot with 1500 has very little chance to be hired given the situation now.
can you give us a light on this.
thanks

Thanks Dave.
If I don't have any internal sponsor, (I've only worked for small companies and don't know anyone there) is there any point stopping in? I'd hate to spend the money for a ticket if its in vane. Though would even for a marginal benefit.

Gob, when you want something you go out and get it. I'm assuming that you didn't get to where you are through free rides. Correct?Gobshite wrote:Thanks Dave.

Is there any point in stopping by? You betcha ! Even if you don't score an interview, you will come to find that the people at WJA are perhaps one the kindest and inspirational people in this industry. They're all there working towards a common goal. I think that if you're already questioning if there's "any point" in heading out there, maybe applying is a moo point? I believe that when you're trying to apply at a big company, especially with no internal recommends, proving your existence and interest in employment is cruical. Starting with a "well what's the point" kind of attitude puts you on the wrong foot. Don't you think so too?
If you have the opportunity, fly out and meet with them; trust me, you won't regret it.
That made my day... awesome news Dave.DaveP wrote:We do hire without an internal recommend, however we do prefer having someone support you that has flown with you. It's kind of like our a sim eval.

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
Is there any place on the current application to indicate that you do have internal references
whom you have previously flown with ?
Thanks, Frank

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
It's an internal process where your references submit an online referral into a database. You can always add the references, as many other candidates do, to the references section of your cut and paste resume. All resumes get reviewed.

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
Dave,
Can't find any current listings to submit an app. I recall reading about a new process a while ago, but I can not seem to find it now. Could you point me in the right direction.
Now to find that logbook
Thanks

Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
I noticed the same thing, did the pilot posting end Dec 31st? Will it be re-posted? Perhaps DaveP can shed some light on this? Would love to join the team!
Re: Wednesday Drop Ins
Hi, Dave
I was also trying to submit an online application and found a return to Workopolis, which had no postings. Can we still apply?
Thanks,

Hi Dave
I've done some searching but couldn't find the answer to my particular question, so sorry if this is a repeat.
Do you prefer we list ALL of our willing and able internal references, or only the ones we have flown with? I ask because in my particular situation, there are several Westjetters that know me professionally, but only a handful have sat next to me in the same airplane.
As well, do you prefer some outside references from our previous employers in addition to internal references?
Thanks!
