Seneca 1 battery location.
The POH on my Seneca 1 says that the battery is located in the forward baggage compartement, but after poking around can't seem to find it to take it out and put it on the charge. Anybody know where it is located? Thanks.

Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
its all the way forward...right in the nose cone fwd of the nose gear well. There should be a cover plate on it.
Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
Thanks got it out. Now the POH says to charge it 4 amps then to finish it off with 2 amps. What kind of charger should I use? A standard 12 amp car charger?

Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
Charge it the slower the better... Where is the aircraft located and how long has it been dead for??? If it's been dead for a while or if it died and the temperature dropped below freezing or if its more than 2 years old its probably best just to replace it... If everything checks out make sure it has water in all the cells, if they need to be topped up use distilled water... If this is the first time you've dealt with a battery like this its probably best to talk to your ame because lots can go wrong, as bad as a hydrogen explosion, if something goes sideways on you...

Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
you might also consider something like this:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4 ... harger.jsp
And here is something similar from Aircraft Spruce:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/e ... teCarb.php
It goes back to the Power Pulse system of battery conditioners.......

Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
Thanks for the info guys. I pulled it out due to the cold weather not because it was dead, so maybe I should just try it when the weather warms up.

Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
If the battery is properly charged it won't freeze and will be fine in the aircraft, but if it does die and freeze it's done... Another option you could consider if the plane isn't hangared is getting one of those solar panel battery maintainers and putting that on the battery, that way you don't have to worry about it dying or removing it from the plane... If you do keep it out of the plane don't leave it sitting on bare concrete... I don't remember what the story behind it is or if its an old wives tale but if you're going to leave it on the ground put a piece of wood or cardboard or something under it... Where do you base your plane?
Re: Seneca 1 battery location.
I have the CTEK unit for my personal use. It's small and can be used in situ for mobile applications. If I was looking for a larger unit then the unit on sale at CT would also be a good choice.
The desulphation technology does work (just check it out on other websites). It's just taken time to trickle down to the general public.
A couple of bucks for peace of mind......

Not parking it for long just waiting for some hangar space wich should be later this week. I try to fly it at least once a week but the last two have been extra cold and snowy. Thanks for all the info guys much appreciated.
