Dress Code?

Post by ZBBYLW »

On the travel site, they have changed the dress code. After reading it, I just want to confirm that dress shoes/dress pants would not be required for J, if Y was filled would they say no to you if you had say nice dark jeans, and a polo shirt?

Jeans are allowed in Y and J now. But what's wrong with putting a pair of dress pants on? Saw a great line on another web site, "dress with class when on a pass".

No harm in dressing "up". There is a caveat in the policy description. Remember that it is quite often the discretion of the gate agent. Give someone a smokey-the-bear hat and a badge...

I actually have always wore dress pants and a dress shirt (with a tie) when I travel. The reason why I ask, as I am not a C2, I have been bumped up to J while some C2 who was wearing jeans for instance was either sent to Y, or not allowed on the flight because there was only room in J, and they did not feel the need to dress properly. So this loop hole, which has worked out for me no longer exists, that is all.

It no longer exists but I think more often then not an agent would upgrade you, wearing dress pants and a nice shirt, rather than someone wearing jeans.

Isn't it based on senority???

I have had this happen to me many times (pre- new dress code rule) where there has been one seat left on a flight and it was me and another con waiting. The other had less senority than me (my dad's senority actually) and he was dressed way better than me. He was in a suit and tie and I was in a golf shirt with black pants and nike running shoes and I got the seat and he didn't. I don't think the gate agent cares about what your dressed like (as long as it's something presentable) but if you have a higher senority, then your gonna get the seat. Another reason for my belief is that he was the actual employee travelling and I was just some punk flying home and they gave the seat to me because I had the higher senority.

But now with the new dress code rule, anything goes. I have seen cons get in Business class with sweat pants right along side me with "better looking clothes". We both had the same senority so we both got on but employee travel isn't based on clothing anymore (especially after the new dress code rule) but rather senority.

Cheers, and happy travels for all the AC cons out there
