"United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has publicly apologized for the UN's "sins of omission." "

He better apologize 800,000 fucking times!

Don't hold your breath; it isn't going to happen. There's no oil in Rwanda.

Just reading "Shake Hands with the Devil" now, i'd recommend it for anybody that is interested in Romeo Dallaire's full story. The movie by the same name, which has been playing in independent theatres is worth a watch too if you can find it.

Off topic, but there is a similar book available dealing with the happenings surrounding the Medak Pocket. It's called "Ghosts of Medak Pocket", although I can't remember the author's name off hand. Absolutely worth a read.

Saw the documentary, waiting for my mom to finish with the book I gave her for Christmas... said she's had to walk away from it a few times as it gets pretty tough to deal with, and let me tell you, she's one hell of a tough woman. I hate to say it, but this stuff has gone on for centuries, and will continue because ultimately humanity is just another wolfpack with periods that lack bloodlust. After spending time in Cambodia, i read a great biography on Pol Pot which put a lot of the whole genocide thing into perspective.

GOOD FOR HIM!

I've read his book and he is a true hero. There should be more people like him. It's a shame what he has to go through eveyday with those memories.

This is someone who is good for Canada, a role model.

One can only wonder if having Leaders like Romeo D'Allaire and Lew Mackenzie at the head of the Canadian Armed Forces would have made a difference as opposed to the managers that ended up in the position. It would never happen in Canada, as Leaders tend to step on toes, and can't be bothered to play CYA. That's not condusive to a long career as a senior officer in today's CAF. :?
