ORNGE...say you didn't...

Post by Doc »

Heard an interesting story. Seems Ornge flew an aircraft from YTS to Toronto Island to pick up two paramedics, because they needed to get to Buttonville. Then the ac returned to YTS. Empty. Could they not get to Buttonville via GO Transit? Or, are they just too important to ride on public transit?|

I also hear (I have lots of "little birdies" who tell me things) that the paramedics make most of the "go/no go" decisions for the pilots? Any truth here?

Seems like the political "string" is wound up pretty tight at Ornge?

When I used to fly medevacs, this wasn't uncommon. I can't speak for the medics calling the shots @ ORNGE.

There were many times when I had to draw the line. One night, after our medevac, medcom tried to get me to stop in at all 3 YYZ airports to drop off medics and the transplant team. They too were finished and weren't going back to the OR - it was just a little closer to home.

The cab drivers made a little extra that night.

Your ambulance chasing is becoming more and more pathetic Doc.

No its not. I worked for Voyageur for 1.5 years and never did (or saw) anything like that.
It's a (further) waste of our tax dollars and as a tax payer we have a right to be alittle picky how there spent.
Also a medic should have NO say in the go/no go decision, they should be informed after its been made. Go here for the conversation this statement sparked.

The cost of operating that airplane to move people such a short distance would probably buy the regular Toronto taxi cab, never mind pay the fare.

I took the time to read through Flightlevels posts and am perplexed at his post calling Doc an ambulance chaser.

If West Jet ran their company with the total disregard for finances ORNGE displayed ( assuming the trip was done as described. ) Flightlevels would be out of a job in a hurry because West Jet would be bankrupt.

Well Cat, Doc,
If you want respect then posts some facts. Little buzz words like "little birdies told me" doesn't fly. Every post from DOC seems to be gossip and hear say let alone his humble wisdom. I couldn't imagine flying with that dude. Let alone smashing around in the hawker all day.

Glad I don't have to fly with you either. I said right up front the story wasn't "gospel". Read the thread title. Are you stating this trip never happened? I never stated that it did. If that's your interpretation, it's your problem, not mine.

Flightlevels, go back and read my post again.

I clarified my comments by adding if it was in fact true the trip was done as described.

I am sure someone from ORNGE will be reading this and if it is not true they may clear it up.

We have about beat this subject into fine dust....now back to Doc's first post here.

DID ORGNGE FLY FROM TIMMINS TO TORONTO ISLAND AND BACK JUST TO MOVE TWO PEOPLE A FEW MILES IN TORONTO?

Wouldn't put it past them>>>

Twice in the past year, the Sudbury medics dutied out in Ottawa at the end of their night shifts and the helicopter returned empty to Sudbury so that it would be back in service for the following day shift.

later that evening, when the night shift pilots came on board, the aircraft was dispatched, sans medics, to Ottawa to recover the medics from the previous night!!!!

So the Buttonville story is completely plausible ....

Obviously cost effectiveness is not a goal with that outfit?

No Cat it is not. I know of an evening when there was a patient in a community without an approach. They asked three different companies to check weather. All three said no chance of getting in. Guess how many planes where dispatched on that flight in 45min? All 3.

The first one came and missed, the second two missed with in 5 min of each other and went home. Not only a waist of money but now 3 crews where unavailable for at a minimum of 2hr - 3hrs.

Hey Cat we all pay for our jobs in one way or another. Lousy CP's, bad weather, bad pay, living conditions, blah, blah blah. Don't tell me you haven't paid for your marraige.

That reminds me, I had my wallet stolen a few months back. Had my Visa in it. Didn't cancel the card. Why? The thief spends less on it than my wife did.
