Another pilot gone too soon

Post by Company Itin »

Just heard a young pilot in Thompson was killed driving into work this morning.

All the best to his family and friends back home, as well as his friends in Thompson.

My thoughts are with everyone.

Hang in there, and take care.

Indeed. Another pilot narrowly avoided the SUV that ended up killing the pilot. SUV drivers were drunk teens, apparently, playing chicken with oncoming cars (so the grapevine says).

The victim was a really REALLY nice dude, pleasant to be around, and a hard worker. I had the privilege to meet him. This is a really sad day.

DON'T EFFING DRINK AND DRIVE.

RIP mon vieux.

Very sad news. YTH is a tight pilot community and this loss will be felt throughout.

Missinippi Airways pilot believed killed in head-on collision on PR 391
Four occupants injured in other vehicle

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate a fatality early this morning after a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred approximately two kilometres north of Thompson on Provincial Route 391.

One adult male, the sole occupant of one vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, and four occupants of the other vehicle sustained various non life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Rob Collen, Thompson RCMP detachment media spokesman. The accident was reported around 7 a.m.

Alcohol and speed are being examined as factors in the accident, Collen said.

The identity of the deceased driver is not being released at this time pending notification of next-of-kin, Collen said, however, several sources have told the Thompson Citizen and Nickel Belt News the person killed in the accident is a young pilot with Missinippi Airways, which is headquartered in The Pas.

The Thompson Airport is not far from the scene of the fatal accident.

No charges have been laid at this time and the investigation is continuing with the assistance of an RCMP collision analyst, Collen said.

That's terrible news. I can't believe that all the drunk idiots were not injured, and it's the innocent guy who gets killed. Really sad

And when the driver goes to court, he'll get off with a promise to attend an alcohol treatment centre for 30 days and abstain from booze, and be out on the street really soon all ready to do it again.

Do I hear ... "Oh, but Foggy, its a social problem symptomatic of our treatment of today's young people who feel they have nowhere to turn to get an even break because all the opportunity in this country has been sucked up already. They were so desperately lacking in a sense of self-worth, they could only get a feeling of accomplishment by playing chicken, what do you expect?"

A very tragic situation, and my heart goes out to the family of this young man whose life was senselessly cut short because of the behavior of a drunk getting behind the wheel.

I had the privilege of sitting next to Simon at the aerocourse in Winnipeg a couple months back. I could tell instantly he was very intelligent and awesome person.

Thinking of you buddy.

Sadly that's invarariably what happens. The drunken idiots walk away; only one of whom will spend a ridiculously small amount of time in jail, and the innocent bystander pays with his life.

Two charged in fatal crash

By Chris Kitching, WINNIPEG SUN

Last Updated: 22nd January 2010, 9:48am

Impaired driving charges have been laid against an alleged driver in a northern Manitoba crash, which killed a 24-year-old man Thursday morning, RCMP say.

Mounties have also charged the suspected driver and a passenger for allegedly lying to investigators during questioning.

Police identified the crash victim as Simon Julien of Thompson.

Julien died when his 2007 Honda Civic collided head-on with a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Provincial Road 391, about two kilometres north of Thompson, RCMP said.

The alleged driver of the Jeep, 19-year-old Tyson David Tyler Brightnose, of Thompson, is charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, driving over .08 causing death, driving over .08 causing bodily harm, and two counts each of breach of probation and breach of recognizance, RCMP said.

Brightnose is also charged with public mischief for allegedly attempting to mislead investigators, police said.

So is a 16-year-old boy, who RCMP said was a passenger in the Jeep.

The youth gave investigators false information about who was driving at the time of the crash, RCMP said.

Brightnose remains in custody, police said.

Normally, I'm pretty easy on young kids being stupid kids. But when I was 19 I was never THAT stupid.

I think we have a recidivist on our hands. Let's save some cash and go with Nark's idea. If grimey gets banned. I have the pic on my hard drive now... just so ya know.

My condolences.

I have removed a half-dozen posts and edited several others. Posting condolences is relevant in this thread - revenge plans against the perps are not appropriate for this particular thread. Please keep in mind that the young pilot's family might be reading this. We are united in mourning a loss, and remembering a good young man.
