In Vancouver and want float rating

Post by ezeflyer »

Hi, I am new to this forum. Just going through it for the first time and I wish I had known about this sooner.

So Transwest is hiring, deadline April 1st, and I want to get my float rating SOON but my friend told me the float schools in Vancouver and area are shut down practicaLLY FOR TRAINING BECAUSE OF THE OLYMPICS. Apparently they can do NO solo flights and you have to for the float rating. Where is the closet floatplane school?

Thanks

Try Ocean Air over in Victoria. http://www.oceanair.ca/ or talk to Cat Driver - I believe that he is connected up in Nanaimo. Both a short ferry ride, and light-years in attitude from the big smoke..

The rings for no fly zone are pretty big and I thought Nanaimo was in the no fly zone. Not sure about Victoria but if Oceon Air is operating, he may get pretty busy and not be able to handle all the ratings. Kelowna - Air-Hart Aviation is a short plane ride away.

Pat Bay Air at the Pat Bay Seaplane Base at Victoria Airport. http://www.patbayair.com
It's outside of the Olympic rings.

Pat Bay Air is based out of Pat Bay at Victoria Airport. They do floats endorsements too and are outside the oympic rings. they have a 172 and a 185 you can train on.

Strongly suggest Island Air in Courtenay with Mike. I did some training with him which lead to a job on the island. He shares an office with a float plane AMO which was awesome for networking.

Did mine with Ocean Air, http://oceanair.ca/ Dave is a good guy, highly recommend....

Vic just missed the Olympic rings, If you want to do training in south western BC over the next 2 months, your choices are Sillywack and Victoria....
Ill leave the choice as to which city you'd rather stay in up to you....

Same thing here in Pitt Meadows, full operation at Pacific Rim Aviation.

I guess any place that is not in the inner ring will have no problem providing float training and will accommodate the routes flown and training spots as required to minimize the disturbance caused by the Security Games.
