Not sure if anyone has been up towards Whistler lately. I had some business to take care of in the village, and some more up in Pemberton. OMFG. I seriously felt as if I was walking into a policed state.... The building of the Berlin Wall. There were police everywhere along the highway from Horseshoe Bay right up to Pemberton, every exit in Whistler had at least one or two police officers controlling traffic, and when I passed by the Heliport - 4 Canadian Forces Griffons waiting to take off. I couldn’t believe it. Stopped at the Husky Station to fuel up and jokingly said to one of the 7 million police officers filling up their cruisers "I didn’t know we turned into a military Dictatorship". The officer laughed and said "Its not, its an RCMP Dictatorship until March".

Moral of the story - Avoid that area like the plague!

I was in and out of Pemberton this past Friday and Saturday (Feb 5th and 6th). No big deal. Had to do the full-on security screen in Kelowna. First they checked me out. Then, while they screened the passengers, an RCMP officer checked out the plane. Everyone was friendly and pleasant. In Pemberton, because we'd just been screened in Kelowna and were heading out of Olympic airspace, we got fairly quick turns. Just a few questions, and we were on our way.
