Re: How loud??
I use a Telex Stratus 50D in a 350 and it is as quite as sitting in your living room. Compared to the ol' Metro it is tolerable even without the ANR on. Remember though you only get a single set of ears, buy the best head set you possibly can!

Spent time in the nine niner, 100 and the 200 with just a set of DC13.4's.. might have been nice to have the ANR version though.

Re: How loud??
I fly KA 200 and to me the noise is pretty much a non event, and I don't have noise canceling. To me it seems very quite compared to flying the twin otter in the dives when you taxi with the windows wide open to avoid sweating to death! At the end of the day, I perfer to not use a fancy head set as I like hearing the sound of the props. The sound of beta is bad ass... Fly safe!

used the DC 13.4 with some good old earplugs!!!! worked wonders!!!!
Re: How loud??
A King Air can definitely be a noisy airplane in certain phases of flight. I use a Telex Stratus 50D which does an excellent job of keeping things consistently quiet.

Re: How loud??
Every airplane can be noisy. If you are sitting in one for 5-10 hours a day, you could eventually do some damage. I'm flying a 200. My passive DC's died after 15 years of use so I went out and bought a Lightspeed Zulu. Best purchase I could have made. No such thing as ear surgery to bring back lost hearing so the extra money is well worth it.

Re: How loud??
King Airs can be noisy with high RPM settings, but not obnoxiously so. You should get along just fine with a good PNR or even a cheapie ANR headset. Wear the best you can afford (but that might not be much if you are on a fresh King Air salary
), your hearing will thank you.

Listen to me, those of you who still have your hearing - I am being tested next week for hearing aids! It figures, I am finally in an aircraft that is virtually silent and I need the headset to hear ATC properly. Just because you are young and have all your hearing does not give you license to lose it! I can't hear crickets, song birds or a high hat very well anymore; if you want to follow in my shoes just keep treating your ears like they will last forever, wear sh*tty headsets, turn up your iPod and do your walk-around without ear defenders.
Try a pair of 1820s at takeoff power for a few years....
XSBANK'S GRATUITOUS PILOT ADVICE #37 - DON'T F*CK WITH YOUR HEARING!
Buy the best headset you can find even if it means KD for a month, check the specs for passive noise canceling because the batteries will go dead one day and the best passive rates also damp the most vibration in your skull. Read about it.
(I'll let you know what colour I get.)

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

I don't have to worry about it then, my dick is not long enough to f*ck with my hearing.XSBANK'S GRATUITOUS PILOT ADVICE #37 - DON'T F*CK WITH YOUR HEARING

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
