Who's hiring?
I've been reading a few forums on here, and I'm getting the impression that AME's haven't been hit that hard by the recession. I don't know if this is true so much for Ontario. Having lived in Calgary for a few years, the industry was thriving a few years back and no doubt, still is. I moved back to southern Ontario and no jobs? I am AME with M1 and M2, no endorsements with 5 years exp. on Dash 8 100/300, King Air 200, HDC's, and Jetstream 31 and 32. To sum it up...why am I having so much trouble finding a job in southern ontario?? Is it just luck of the draw? Am I not experienced enough?
Can anyone give some insight onto this?
With the way things are going...I don't want to say it...but I'm starting to seriously reconsider my career path.
Cheers

You get the impression that AME's havn't been hit that hard, man with that perceptoin you should have moved to Abbotsford.
Didn't you hear ON is now a have-not province, times are tough and aviation is one of the first to suffer.
Things were good in AB, a have province and not so effected by the downturn.

Re: Who's hiring?
It doesn't seem like AME's have been hit hard, because we haven't recovered yet from the last few recessions.
Wages have been stagnant since the '70s.
Management's attitudes haven't changed since the '50s.
Airlines are outsourcing everything to Brazil, Mexico, India, and Bangladesh.
We can't be kicked too hard - we're already down.

Re: Who's hiring?
ExelTech has shut down, Bombardier has had a large layoff, Mjet in YUL has also laid off staff and AC has a large layoff coming in a few months.
Slowly this market is turning sour, let's hope it doesn't get as bad as the early nineties.
If you are looking for work, try premier aviation in Trois-Rivière. It might be harder for an anglophone to work there but they seem to be doing pretty good. Also, general aviation probably needs a few AMEs but salaries are lower then airline or regional work.

Time to pack your bags get ur EASA License and move to the Middle East thats where all the jobs are, Canadian Aviation industry sucks and yes in BC we have been hit very very hard gdluck

So now that you've been there awhile, tell us your impressions?tica wrote:Dont need EASA License to move to Middle East!
Re: Who's hiring?
i talked to some maintenance guys there they say its easier to get the gcaa license when you have the EASA license with you ...so i dont really know can canadian ame license holders just go write the gcaa regulations test or they have to go thru the whole process of airframe crap examstica wrote:Dont need EASA License to move to Middle East!

Re: Who's hiring?
To get the GCAA license you just have to write the Air Regs if you have been licensed for 5 years or can prove you have CRS authority for 2 years. If not you will be required to write all 5 modules and pass within 1 year. I just had to write a multiple choice and 2 essay questions for the Air Regs. People with EASA licenses have the same criteria. Now if you have an A&P from the FAA expect to write all 5 modules as they don't except it unless you have IA authority with proof of certifying aircraft.

Re: Who's hiring?
thanks for the info still have a long way to go but crappy thing is they need people with endorsements e.g. ek,etihad e.t.c. and being here in canada only airline that flies those planes is ac which is impossible to get in and impossible to get endorsements unless i win the lottery and go do it at boeing..rotorhead350 wrote:To get the GCAA license you just have to write the Air Regs if you have been licensed for 5 years or can prove you have CRS authority for 2 years. Re: Who's hiring?
depends on what your looking for, they only have out bases located in ottawa i'm pretty sure, and getting in at an out base is hard, you usually need years experience to get out to an out base, those are the best gigs honestly, as a line tech you'll be lucky to go on road trips from time to time to out bases, as an ame on the line, it happens more often and an ame with experience with a few years experience on the line is usaully a good candidate for an out base..... most of the heavy in ontario for those companies is done in yyz and yhm but i'm not 100% about ottawa i've been out of ontario for a few years...glidepath wrote:any of those hiring in ottawa?
Re: Who's hiring?
AFAIK, no one is hiring in Ottawa. There is no real aviation industry in Ottawa.glidepath wrote:any of those hiring in ottawa?
Still, just because they aren't advertising, it doesn't mean that they won't pick up the right guy with the right skills.
Try: Fugro, Sander Geophysics, Ottawa Flying Club and First Air in Ottawa (Uplands). Rockcliffe Flying Club in Ottawa (Rockcliffe). Helicopter Transport Services in Carp.
Those are essentially the only games in town.
