Couldn't find a clear answer to this....

I was told a few weeks ago from an old friend that in order to get the ATPL signed off I have to have a PPC and the exams written within 12 months of application... I can't find anything in the CAR's that says that.

The way I understand it is that I have 2 years to get the hours from the time I write the exams. At that time I also have to have a PPC ride completed within 12 months prior to application.

Is there something I am missing?

(5) Skill

(a) Within the 12 months preceding the date of application for the licence, an applicant shall demonstrate in a multi-engined aeroplane with no central thrust configuration and fitted with instruments and equipment suitable for IFR flight in controlled airspace, familiarity with and the ability:
(amended 1999/03/01; previous version)

(i) to perform both normal and emergency flight procedures and manoeuvres appropriate to the aeroplane in which the flight test is conducted; and

(ii) to execute all manoeuvres and procedures set forth in Division XIV for issue of a Group 1 instrument rating.

(b) For issue of the Airline Transport Pilot Licence - Aeroplane, the Minister shall only endorse a Group 1 Instrument Rating on the licence.

The exams are valid 2 years past completion of the first exam, and a group 1 instrument ride must be completed 12 months before the application of the licence.

Just tried that. It brought up 2 articles but I can't find anything related. Maybe I am just missing it...

yes they do, read the regs it refrences a group flight 1 inst rating not a PPC...

group 1 flight tests count, i got my ATPL when i was an isntructor

exams vaild for 2 years from the date of the FIRST exam, regardless when you write the second. if it goes past the two years the time then restarts from the date of the second exam and you must re-write the first (had this happpen to a buddy who missed his time by less than one flight)
