New "Old Aircraft"
So, now that the Twin Otter is back in production, what other out of production aircraft would you like to see back on the assembly line and why?
Re: New "Old Aircraft"
With the consultation and blessing of Canadian Forces, the Buffallo for SAR. Politically, it makes great sense. Brian Mullroney, and his mob of whack-jobs screwed Western Canada out of the F-18 maintaince contract.Reasons...1/ We have LOTS of empty hanger-space in Western Canada. 2/ This project could be a JV with the companys allready desperate for work. 3/ This could be a life-line for City Center-Edmonton. 4/ Lets get some engineers back to work (with a good wage), before they all wake up,and become plumbers. 5/ P&W are laying off now, so all of Canada would benifit...Just an uneducated thought.

P-51's
I figure if they make another 10 million of them they'll be cheap enough for me to buy one.

Re: New "Old Aircraft"
Well I would have said the DC-9 but they're already doing that (sort of) in China.

As long as they keep the jettison tailcone and safety rope slide in the back I'm all for it. I've always wanted to dump one of those out.

Something about the modest radial engines, thick wings and tail wheel that get my mojo flowing of the DC-3.
Beautifully symmetrical, and looks like it should always be flying.
Less than 400 in service today out of 16000+ in the 30-40's
I would love to get my hands on the controls of a 3

How about a turbine equipped Cessna 195, a little old with new.
Re: New "Old Aircraft"
Why ruin a classic round engine? Now put a turbine on a Norseman and you'll have a load haulin', never quit, tankKilo-Kilo wrote:How about a turbine equipped Cessna 195, a little old with new.
Re: New "Old Aircraft"
C185 with a turbocharger. Call it the "Mountain Goat"!
Re: New "Old Aircraft"
Cessna 172... oh wait they're still building them.
No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.

Rebuild the C-46 with PW123 or PW150 engines. Lighten it up with whatever new tech you can put in without getting off of the original type certificate, slap a nice glass cockpit in her and start hauling freight till ya pass out. I'll make a million!. Say, what ever happened to the turbo Caribou idea after the crash? Is Pen Air still around?
Thunder Bay radio, HEG is in the airborne section, call final for 27

LOL, I suppose but I was thinking more like C195 classic private verses Norseman workhorse.Kilo-Kilo wrote:"Pot to Kettle.....looking black!"Bushav8er wrote:Why ruin a classic round engine? Re: New "Old Aircraft"
The Cessna 150. Seriously. Follow the KISS principal. We need simple reliable airplanes the common sot can afford to operate.
Piper J3.
Piper Navajo. One where the wheels will go down, all on their own.
As for the Avro Arrow? Bring Diefenbaker back to life, and put a bullet through his brain!
Me109? P51? P40? This could be a never ending list. My Dad told me, at the end of the war, you could pick up Harvards for 250$!! Should have filled a few barns with them.......maybe somebody did?

Doc, my friend who is just shy of 60 was telling me of his dad buying B26's out of Edmonton after the war at the price of 75 bucks for scrap.

Re: New "Old Aircraft"
Found this on wikipedia.
In November 2007, Antilles Seaplanes of Gibsonville, North Carolina announced it was restarting production of the Grumman Goose.[1] PWC PT6A-34 turboprops will replace the original Pratt & Whitney piston engines,[1] and the airframe and systems will be updated, increasing the seating capacity from eight to 10 places; the aircraft will be known as the Antilles Super Goose. The first example is now being assembled

Re: New "Old Aircraft"
I think it is fantastic they are bringing back the Twotter. This was an aircraft that was very difficult to replace, Cessna could not do it with the Caravan.
But I would love to see the Tutor brought back. An aircraft built like a brick shit house and a sense of Canadianism back in the Air Force. Just re-engine it for better fuel economy and range, and a new avionics suite and you got yourself a dream machine.
Some one else also mentioned it here, sorry cannot remember who. The good ole Buffalo, The aircraft that can land on a dime and leave you a nickle change. Loiter time is forever and the speeds are perfect for SAR.
I would love to see more Canadian built machines in the world but the CRJ just doesn't cut it. Cramped , unreliable, no heavy loads.
But realy there are oh so many classics.

Kowalski: Sir, we may be out of fuel.
Skipper: What makes you think that?
Kowalski: We've lost engine one, and engine two is no longer on fire.

The little Mooney Mite would be a neat airplane to see back in production. I always wanted to fly one.

True, but just imagine paying for the fuel to fly one.Hey Cat! Just imagine brand spanking new Grumman Tiger Cats!
YUM!
In 1961 I was in Vero Beach Fla. to buy a new Pawnee 235, just down the road in Ft. Pierce there were seven P38's for sale, flyable for $700.00 each.
If only one could have looked ahead and known what they would be worth today.
I flew the Mooney Mite in 1954 at the Toronto Island airport..it was a marvelous little toy.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Basler is rebuilding them with turbines and a bunch of innovative upgrades. So much so in fact that they had to call it the BT-67.Oor Wullie wrote:Something about the modest radial engines, thick wings and tail wheel that get my mojo flowing of the DC-3.
