Logging SIM hours (Level D)

Post by avi8er »

Just entered the corporate world.

I have recently completed Initial (SIC) type rating of Hawker-800XP, level-D (full motion) simulator in CAE.

Wondering......can I log these sim hours towards my "total flying hours" or not ? ? ?

Who was your instructor? I just finished my recurrent with Nick back in December.

With all of the downsizing down there at CAE in DFW a lot of great instructors were let go.

Exactly.

Sim time goes in the SIM column and does not count towards total time.

You can put it in the IFR column as well, if want, only a certain amount can count towards the issue of the ATPL.

I always thought Level D counted as the bird.

Does anyone have a specific reference for this? Some of the guys at my company have logged their level C/D training as MPIC and Sim. I can't find any reference that gives any guidance one way or another.

Here you go and it does not say anything about simulators.

Personal Logs

401.08 (1) Every applicant for, and every holder of, a flight crew permit, licence or rating shall maintain a personal log in accordance with subsection (2) and with the personnel licensing standards for the documentation of

(a) experience acquired in respect of the issuance of the flight crew permit, licence or rating; and
(amended 2001/03/01; previous version)

(b) recency.

(2) A personal log that is maintained for the purposes referred to in paragraphs (1)(a) and (b) shall contain the holder's name and the following information in respect of each flight:

(a) the date of the flight;

(b) the type of aircraft and its registration mark;

(c) the flight crew position in which the holder acted;

(d) the flight conditions with respect to day, night, VFR and IFR;

(e) in the case of a flight in a aeroplane or helicopter, the place of departure and the place of arrival;

(f) in the case of a flight in an aeroplane, all of the intermediate take-offs and landings;

(g) the flight time;

(h) in the case of a flight in a glider, the method of launch used for the flight; and

(i) in the case of a flight in a balloon, the method of inflation used for the flight.

(3) No person shall make an entry in a personal log unless the person

(a) is the holder of the log; or

(b) has been authorized to make the entry by the holder of the log.

My additional $.02 :

You can't log it as flight time, and since PIC is under the "Flight Time" column, I don't think it's above board to do that. It is SIM time, that's it. I guess you could log "MPIC sim", but nobody cares about that. regardless of how realistic the simulator is, it's not an airplane and you can't log it as "flight time". It goes under the SIM column, and if you need some instrument time for your ATPL, you can put up to 25 hours in the IFR column as well. Of course, if you're not logging time towards the issuance of a rating or license anymore, you can do whatever the heck you want. :wink:
