Layoffs and foreign pilots?

I thought it was determined that the layoff thing was a myth at Sunwing? Historically they've handled the slower summer season with vacation, but never laid off pilots. I would expect Sunwing to be hiring though since they're now in bed with Signature Vacations. You can expect them to add about 5 or 6 airplanes to their fleet next winter. That should add at least 60 pilots to their roster in the fall.

By the way, they have a reciprocal agreement, where they have a similar number of jobs for Canadians overseas as they do positions for "foreigners" in Canada. Hopefully it stays that way with the expansion next winter. Maybe they've seen what Canjet can get away with and will only hire foreigners instead.

Myth? ... really??? .... Because i've seen the letter my buddy at SW received. It refers to base closers and layoffs ... Hell of a myth! I hope for his sake its a practical joke! But I doubt it ...

How recent was the letter's date?

I hear 50 pilots layed off and a lot of cabin crew as well...wonder why so many layoffs while everyone else is ramping up and turning things around.....

Considering that they signed a contract with signature vacations to start next year IF and big IF, the layoffs won't last long as the pax and travel routes will be double.

Sunwing will go to 17-18 airplanes next winter, give or take. They had 12 this year I believe, so brush up your resumes as well as "what you hear".

Actually they did lay off from the western bases. Total aircraft numbers for the winter are a question mark at this time, but there is a potential for hiring in the fall for sure.

Who is ramping up and turning things around?? Know something everyone else does not..This little recession/financial crisis is nowhere near over..
