Hello friends,

I am doing my initial IFR at the moment and the next step is intro to GPS navigators. I tried the Garmin site but their sims are for PC only. Anyone here know of a Mac-friendly (preferably Garmin) GPS simulators, either online or downloadable.

I haven't been able to find one but if you have a mac you can also run Windows. Just get the parallel software and a copy of Windows.

Don't bother buying Parallels.
There's some neat free software called "Virtual Box" that you can download. I use it for all my Jepp stuff (FliteStar, GPS update, etc) because, like Garmin, Jepp hasn't gone Mac. Yet.

I think Garmin is starting to move towards Mac now. They have the GPS updater (name?) in mac version now - that's new for 2010. Given that Mac has exploded from 5million to 75 million users in 5 years it seems smart to make the move.

The programmers I work with daily use VMWare Fusion, Parallels and have tried Virtual Box. They say Virtual Box isn't as stable or easy to use. They recommend Parallels and I just installed it a couple weeks ago. Very stable and works great. Once you have Parallels installed if you can find someone already running it you can get an image copy from them and import it and get your windows environment up and running in no time.

I'm using fusion right now and it works well. I had an older copy of parallels and prefer the new version of fusion. Really the choice should be one of those two and you will likely be happy with either. You can do the image thing with fusion as well. Both are good programs.

If you have an intel mac dont bother with any of that nonsese install Boot camp (or other) and just install full blown windows...

Other than that if your looking for an app to use to help with IFR training then X-plane is your best bet.. The fancy version will even drive a Real G1000 etc

Uh X-Plane has a native Mac version and it works freaking great... Really why would want to pollute a god mac with Windows?

Ya if you have an iMac or any Intel based Mac just install Windows XP under boot camp - easy to do, all the drivers are on the OSX DVDs, extremely easy to set up with boot camp.
